There is a guy selling a bunch of 8.125" Swingers that will fit Oz and 5000/4000 frames. I have one on my Oz and I'm loving it.

I agree. Great way to fine tune your ride, and shed some weight too. Keep the old shock for a spare.:-)

I just picked one of these up from the 'bay and I'm hoping to install it on my EVO Monkey this weekend. I noticed that the moutning hardware is different for my NR-2 than the Swinger. So I'm wondering what you did to get it installed.
Right now, I'm leaning towards using M8 bolts, drilling out the M6 frame mounts and using washers/shims to align the shock. If I could get any advice on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You can order bushings from Manitou via your LBS. Just tell them what shock and bike you have and they could be to you in a week. I get mine from REI, costing about $11.

How do you recommend I shave the swingarm mount? I've read some used a dremmel tool. Any other suggestions?
http://webmountainbike.stores.yahoo.net/manswinspv6w.html was the only site I've found that sells the mounting hardware, though $20 /set is a bit steep if REI sells them for $11. I'll have to check with my local REI if I can't find a shop closer.

Hi chaps, I ride a XPX, how easy would it be to fit one of these shocks, as grinding bits off scares me to death. How much gain in terms of weight loss would there be over the old ODS unit I still use, and how much better will it ride?
Would it fit on the crosslinks as well?
Cheers, Tel.

tel, theyre too long for an xpx, depending on the size of the home made adaptor (they dont have the cone mount for the strut bikes) i would say a shock of around 165mm i2i would be required. im thinking of making myself an adaptor at work when im less busy than i am now! if i get it made i could possibly run a small batch off if anyone would be interested.

This is how I mounted my Swinger. No dremeling necessary.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/swingershock.JPG
As for bushings, you may have to give your LBS or dealer a sketch of the bushings you need. REI called in the dims and they had them in stock.

Hey Tel! How is Mrs. Tel?
I picked up a 7.5 i2i a while back and mounted it like this;http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/Proflexwithmods,Aug.31.JPG
I modified the strut like this by adding side plates.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/957strutmounted.JPG Notice that the bonded tubes had come loose, and I had to weld those as well.

Terry,
I couldn't view any of your pics even after I created an account. What am I doing wrong?

You are right. Let me look into this. I think I got it fixed(without my kid's help, by the way).
Terry
P.S. By the way, any of the swinger coil shock bushings are identical to the air shocks.
-
Did you fabricate the adapter, or a metal shop?
-
I did.
I removed the hump on each side, then filed a groove both sides to match the width of the shock. I then made the plates, bolted them to the shock, and tacked/welded them on. The shock end actually tucks into the taper hole.
-
Hi Terry, Mrs Tels fine mate, hope alls well with your gang. looks like I wont be getting a new shock then mate.
Cheers, Tel.

Been a while since I've posted here. I installed one of these Swingers on my medium Disco Monkey today and took it for a ride. My first impressions are very good.
The shock works great and has good damping. SPV seems to work well too. No bob from the rear and still good response to small bumps. I'm using the pressure recomendations printed on the shock. Seems to be very close to dialed in right there.
On the minus side, I'll have to unbolt the shock to get to the SPV fill valve. I don't think a large frame would have this problem.
Previously had a Fox Vanilla, 7.875" i2i. This shock puts me back to the stock i2i length.

I'd be in for a cone->eye adapter if you're making some up.

Me too!!!

MadCowKev was asking about these recently too... are you out there Jeffhop?! ;-)
-
In case you missed out the first time, the guy is selling about 8 more. I can't believe the difference.
-
Can anyone tell me if I can mount the shock in a x57 frame without cutting the frame? Does the thinner part of the shock fit the side plates of the frame as the noleen shocks?
-
as long as you dont have a small i think that you will be all right.Buy a short one though so you have some length for an adapter to fit the strut,o go the whole hog and go sfb(simons four bar)
8.125 (http://cgi.ebay.com/MANITOU-SWINGER-3-WAY-REAR-SHOCK-SHOX-WITH-SPV-8-125_W0QQitemZ320084509402QQihZ011QQcategoryZ42317QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
another guy is selling other lengths eg 7.5 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260084046268&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores&refitem=320066305045&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget)

Wouldn't it be better a 6.5'' shock instead? The noleen has 8'' to the end of the tapper. An adapter without the tappered lenght would have about 1'' long, being the total lenght about 7.5'', aproximately what the noleen has without the tappered end.
Wouldn't a 7.5'' shock raise the rear end too much?
I wouldn't like that to happen as the "dive" effect of the crosslinks would be more noticed.
The problem would be the short stroke, as I believe the shock is more difficult to adjust. I do not like longer strokes anyway...
I have to decide to buy or not to buy, before I take my blown up nr4 to put some new seals, oil and gas (about 40€).
Any sugestions?
Regards, Ricardo.

You can mount the shock chamber down and it should fit. I elected to mount chamber upon my large 957, and clearanced the mount slightlly. I think it looks good, but that is me.(http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/Proflexwithmods,Aug.31.JPG)

A 6.5 would give more length for the adapter, but most of the adapter length is"within' the length of the shock...a benefit of a shortr shock for the strut bike is you can slow the steering a bit.
-
hey Shovelon why do the crosslinks look slightly wrong on your bike???I dont mean to offend, they just look kinda wrong somehow ???

The J-path on these forks shorten the rake when I am braking, making the front really nervous. So I swaped them from left to right to increase the rake. Much better now(and a little kooky:-)).

Since you have a Swinger, can you confirm the shaft diameter so I can check that it will fit the frame?
Ricardo.

Will this fit on a 4000 without trimming? Can't pass up that price, I'm going to have to pick one up and see if I can figure out how to make it fit. Thanks for the link!

I'm down with acquiring one of these as well. Will it work for my 855?

unfortunately having just sold my xpx i wont be making any adaptors, sorry.

There are more of the 8.125 i2i / 2" stroke Swingers up on eBay now for $85. He also has some Rock Shox Ario's (i2i 7.875", stroke 2") for sale at $115.
