I have been chating to members on the Retrobike forum, and these guys/gals have been trying to organise an Autumn meet. In fact I believe it was due to take place today.
This got me thinking, why not have a meet with fellow members so that we can show off the machines?? I do know that we are not all in the same country (before any wise cracks), thought it would good to put faces to names.
Getting cold now I know, but we don't mind that do we!!!! Well maybe a little bit, extra socks needed.
What do you think?

There's the Real Ale Wobble (non-competitive mountain biking event with kegs of beer en route) of course on 18th /19th Nov in Llanwrtyd Wells. I'll be there with a couple of mates. Been going for 10 years.
-
I've already met up with and gone out riding with
Sprucey,Nigel (Proflexuk),and Dominic.
I was also priveleged enough to meet Will (Willem) when he came over from the states with his family,
all great experiances and I recommend to anyone
from this site to meet up if they can, its a great little
community we have here.
Simon.
-
I also met up with
1) Sprucey (he came over here on a sailing trip) We didn,t actually get to go riding :(
2)I also met Dan Hager and his wife, who came over form California. He didnt have a bike so we didnt go riding either :(
That shows the power of Proflex........
There is a big thread somewhere about a proposed meet
-
id love to go to a proflex meet, only problem is, apart from callum i would say i was the most northern uk member here.so i would say meet in the middle. a spring ride would be a good time for everyone to sort out their calenders.
-
That would be good. I certainly don't mind a bit of travelling.

please define Middle....for me and you it would be maybe hawaii???
-
I'd definately be up for it... I'm on the South coast though, so as long as it wasn't toooo far away from me... which it probably would be...! :)
-

Hmmm, you have an idea there.

Hey Perfect. Dont' have to fly anywhere.
Seriously, if you any of you get to vacation in Hawaii, specifically Oahu, I'll be glad to show you the trails. I've taken a few vacationing mtbrs from the MTBR.COM forum to undocumented trails.
We're suppose to be getting a Super Ferry (car carrying type) here in a few years so my buddies and I are anticipating ROAD TRIPs to the other islands.
-
The retrobike guys had a meet here in Birmingham at Cannock Chase. Good Mountaib Biking and in the middle fo eveyone.
I'm in.
-
Lads lads there can only be one place to ride and that with Kiwi in NZ.
Failing that I am up for this so name a venue.
I am just outside Exeter devon.
:-)
-
sheesh i have only got one spare bedroom!
-
Dominic - I grew up in Topsham - you near there?
-
Kiwi, how many spiders do you have useing the information off this site.
Orange I live in West Hill. about 7 miles from Topsham.
Over woodbury common my haunt.
Kiwi the govenment says that you should be able to get 9 people per room, so how many rooms did you say you have at your place.
-
Dominic - cool - I used to go there all the time but in the days before MTBs - remember people flying model aeroplanes up there and the marines training. Also Haldon Hills. West Hill very nice part of the world!! Anyway, enough as this is becoming very off-topic!!
-
Orange where abouts are you now then.
Woodbury is covered with loads of single track.
-
Dominic - PM'd you - don't want to hijack this thread!
-
where can I find the details of this event?
sounds cool, unfortunately my 856 is in bits in the workshop after being painted black ready to become a singlespeed (again) ready for next years SSWC to be hosted in Scotland.
I have still got my old proflex franken-beast that I use for testing - could ride that! and I am sure I have a BMW-Proflex race jersey somewhere.
cheers

I am sorry Dom I dont understand your question
-
Every site out there is watched by programs that are run from say google or Yahoo, for companies that use the information people post for market research.
These programs are called spiders.
So be carefull on forums how much personal information one hands out about yourself, because this info can be used by a company.
Your site Kiwi will have spiders watching it.
Would you like me to tell you how you can find their webbs ?
You would be amazed just what sort of people are using these spiders.
-
Hmmm, you have an idea there.
i will third that!
-
oh ok i will take care I guess. Its not my site its daves,i just hang out here the most.
-
Sorry Kiwi and there I was thinking you owned the site.
I thought you were so clever to have a world wide site.
Hey ho
-
yeah - never put your email address on a website. We get about 400 spams a day for some of the old Rapid Descent sales account emails that we used to use back in the 1990's. We now have spam filtering but it's still quite a job to get through the emails.

well that would explain why I am not getting through then.
I am an old program!!!! ;-)
-
So whats the plan then guys.
When is this meet??
It would need to be say a sat or sun because some have a long way to travel.
What about Cannock chase ?
thats about central
-
i think it should be in the spring or at least after the clocks go forward, that way the ride can go on for a bit longer and the people that have furthest to travel dont end up doing both ways in the dark. unless of course we make a weekend out of it??
-
I recommend making a weekend of it,
ride over the weekend at Afan forest
stay here www.brynbettwslogcabins.co.uk
located right at the top of the WALL decent.
just my 2pennith.
Simon.
-
Yes great idea Simon and great riding.
-
Yep, ok I admit, perhaps not the best time in the year to suggest meeting up. Must be getting a little twitchy because I can't get out on the 856 as much now I think.
Crackin idea Afan forest, never been but I hear its great. Cannock would be better for me, but then it's 'swings and roundabouts' for everyone as we all live in such varied locations.
Making a weekend of it sounds brilliant, just got to work on getting a two day pass from my wife!!!!!!!
Any other ideas peeps??
-
Jeffs got a good point about the dark mornings/afternoons.
So lets have two meets!!!! A weekend bash and a new year wake up.
-
Weekend Bash? How about the Malverns? Yes I know I live here!! Let me know.
New Year wake up ride? Day after Boxing Day around the Brecon Beacons. Regularly do this year in year out. Start out from Talbont on Usk 10:00, return to pub about 14:00. Great circular ride.
Just thoughts.
Or what about 'Hell of North Cotswolds' in early April, 1,100 rides set out all at once (not a race, more an endurance thingy), either 100 or 50kms choice. Costs £10 to register, money goes to charity. Oh and you get a medal!!
Get your entry forms on line from 1st Jan.

Some of those options sound great... 100kms just sounds painful though!!
-
Oz-Sub I like the sound of these ideas (ok so I know and live around these areas).
Would love to cycle around the Malverns and the enduro thing sounds painful but exciting.
BRING BACK THE LIGHT EVENINGS coz I can't afford a decent set of lights.
Anyone else think these locations are any good?
-
its a little far for e but i second the idea of a "endrance type thing" I used to enter a 100 km event, and the buzz was amazing!.However a 100 km event requires a bit of training or an acceptance that the pace will be on the slow side(depends on the terrain of course!.Do it you UK guys!
-
Been competing Midland Trailquests on 657 this year. Results not that brilliant but learning. Check out http://www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk/ for details. Good to have a ride with a purpose, friendly people on all sorts of machines.
cheers

trailquests sounds fun - might give it a go. Only live in Derby so not far!

BRING BACK THE LIGHT EVENINGS coz I can't afford a decent set of lights.
I've made three lights for under $50 usd that are easily as bright as or brighter than my buddies' $400 sets. Do a search for DIY headlamps on MTBR or similar site and see lots of possibilities... The batteries are always the most expensive part - but you can get premade battery packs on eBay for about $40. Night riding is a blast. I just wish I had someone to do it with me!
-
DIY lights. Never thought of that. Well actually, I didn't know it was an option. Thanks Matno will look into that.
