Title: Seat Post Insert - Carbon OZ 45-5500
Post by: JEM on October 16, 2006, 04:53:40 am
I have a WTB ad for the above seat post insert in your classifieds, but if I fail to find one, has anybody had one made or fabricated, or any other solutions ? (I called Iron Horse, no go.) I have the remainder of the insert removed from the carbon frame .....the top collar broke off, so my seat and post spin 360s, with no lock down. I need another insert.

It's been about 5 years since I have posted on this forum. It's great to see that you all are still up and running.......I see lots of familiar names on the roster, so I send out a big HELLO.
I have two Carbon Oz's: one is nicely rigged for cross country with many carbon extras as well as carbon Spinergy Rev X Roks, and the othe Oz is a free ride fat tire disk with a Super T 7" travel fork with tons of BB clearance and a tall ride. (my favorite).
Happy Trails.

Later, James.

No problem
had this happen to me a while back,

I made up an engineering drawing and had a replacement machined up,

The drawings including CAD were in the files section but these seem to of disappeared now,

anyway give me your email and I'll send you an engineering drawing for a replacement,

if you really get stuck I do still have a spare (I had 2 made) but I'd only let this go as a last resort.

Simon.

That brings up a notion I had. Carbon seatpost don't work well in my Oz. Had to clamp really hard to keep it from slipping, so I went back to my Thompson.

Could this be why it breaks at the clamp?

I guess if I had mine break and I had to machine another, I would use a smaller seatpost to get more insert thickness.

I would put it here but its to much hassle trying to upload pic's and drawings, shame most of the important ones seem to be lost forever.

Thanks Bro ! Very COOL.
I'll get back to you after I find a machine shop.
I private posted Terry (shovlon) about his question on removal of glued broken insert. There is a fairly do-able way to go about it , with good clean results.

Thanks All.
James
