Title: ELASTOMER HARDNESS CHART
Post by: SLIM on September 12, 2006, 09:05:13 pm
taken from a 1995 PROFLEX owners manual

spring weight v rider weight ( in LBS )

Dual spring bikes

spring          arcadia

10 / 20          90 - 120

20 / 40          100 - 140

30 / 50          120 - 160

40 / 60          140 - 180

50 / 70          160 - 200

455 & 555

20 / 40          90 - 120

30 / 50          100 - 140

40 / 60          120 - 160

50 / 70          140 - 180

60 / 80          160 - 200

755

20 / 40          90 - 120

30 / 50          100 - 140

40 / 60          120 - 160

50 / 70          140 - 180

60 / 80          160 - 200

855 , 955 & ANIMAL

100 / 120          90 - 120

110 / 130          100 - 140

120 / 140          120 - 160

130 / 150          140 - 180

140 / 160          160 - 200

on the 855 , 955 & ANIMAL the higher spring is on top

on all others the lower spring is on top

so for example on my 555 i would need at 160 lbs

a 50 / 70 split ( 50 on top )

may answer a few of the recuring questions on elastomer hardness

are you suyre its the Shore scale?

I also got the elastomer numbers from my old Proflex dealers manual.  Tested in my rig, an 80 ShoreA set of elastomers will get about 25mm of rear travel instead of 80mm for my fully loaded test mass. It works out at about 750lbs/inch travel for the bike and about 1800lbs/inch (first inch) for the shock.

The other thing is, they could well loosen with age and then you'll get the full travel back.

I'll put the spring rate curves up on my website later.

cheers
