Title: Simon's 957 sealed bearing conversion
Post by: shovelon on September 06, 2006, 05:19:31 am
Here are some pics of my 957 with Simon's bearing conversion.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/Proflexwithmods,Aug.31.JPG
The conversion with sealed bearings and titanium (http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-6/1036595/957sealedbearingconversion.JPG)  bolts is smoother and there is no gain in weight.

Just tuning the bike now and it is really fast at 22 lbs.

very nice - what's going on with your middle ring there - seems to be all cut up into funny shapes?!

All of the rings are shaved to save weight. Still work perfect though. :-)

Errrrrrrrrmmmm..........you know you got them Fork legs on back to front don't ya?

Or are you the guy that I remember experimenting with this idea some time ago?

I guess you stuck with it then!

Them stupid Girvin people knew nothing! <grin>

Yeeeaaaa Boouueey!!!

I am the guy. I fugure I can go faster where I been, than where I were'nt.

Really I looked at the rear brake orientation and approved that notion. Then I was greasiing my joints(no, not beer), and had one leg off (I know what you are thinking) and figured I could get more rake at the front if I went contrary.

Just plain old Grivinian logic!

Matno ain't gonna like that seat postion, though :-)

besides smoother, does it feel stiffer (more rigid laterally?)

don't think i'd ever monkey with mine, but it sure looks sweet

22#.....awesome!

No, it feels the same. But it does feel more active on the vertical motion. So much so, that the fork does not feel up to the job. I never expected that.

I think I am going to retire the fork to a Mega Air 100 to keep up with the rear.

That seat position is for climbing. No need for sitting on the descents. Does hurt on the flats though.

hmmmmm. i might be misinterpreting, but the x~link (with nr2) was the best for stutter/washboard trails, for me.

the Mega~Air does not respond as well, but there is the extra inch of travel.

have you tried the "main bearing adjustment" test on this??? Is there any stichion at all, now? With the pinch bolts, you always ...or should have at least, I guess had some stichion the main bearing pivot....as part of "balancing" the rear.

Maybe Simon needs to build you some sealed bearings for the drops where the swingarm attaches to the strut???

it sure looks purdy though
ps I used to catch hell from Matno. My mtb seat is like that, too.

The x links are fine. The risse shock has mess of stiction. I did not like the smartshock until the oil spewed. So then with no oil, it felt like magic, but was still weighty.

My Maverick air fork has a bit of stiction, but has 6 inches of travel and magic ride. I am hoping the mega air is similar.

I am racing my 957 and really need the performance. So onward a upward. Gosh the 957 part of the package is so nice. I just love it.
