Title: Derailleur Hanger Screw
Post by: thomas on August 18, 2006, 09:15:10 am
After my ride last night I noticed one of my derailleur hanger screws is missing.  I ride a 1998 proflex 5000.  I called my LBS and they don't have a screw that will fit.  Does anyone know where I can find a screw? Would the local hardware store have something.

Thanks.

Biking Utah in August, doesn't get any better than this.

If you find one, I'd like to know where too. My father-in-law (who lives in American Fork, UT) is missing one from his 5000. Then again, it's been missing for a couple of years now with no noticeable shifting problems...

Hi Thomas,

You can get them at McMasterCarr.com.

If Ironhorse bikes still has hangers, they come with the 2 little screws. Might be worth getting a spare hanger anyway.

I have a whole box of screws if you strike out. Could spare a couple. Let me know.

Matno,

I found a screw that fits.  I also live in American Fork, the screw ws at Ace Allreds Hardware in Pleasant Grove, across the street from the Purple Turtle.  The screw is 4mm and they have several different lengths with different type of heads.

That's a decent hardware store. I've been in New York for 5 years now and have never found a decent one for small bits. Home Depot is the best I've been able to do, which isn't saying much!

Where in American Fork do you live? My wife is from there - right by the AF Hospital. We're in Westchester now (just moved from the Bronx), but we visit often, and I ride whenever I'm out there. Just did the Alpine foothills about a month ago (in the dark - it was sweet!)

I live North of the AF Cemetery.  I bought an annual pass up AF canyon and have been at least once a week.  I will try and post pictures.  Of course it will only make you homesick for the sweet single track. Iin the next few weeks the leafs will start changing color.

Too funny.  I lost one on my 5000 a few years ago and found a replacement at the same Ace Hardware Store.  I live in Orem.
