Does anybody know if a '96 beast fork will work on a '97 657 expert with way big frame?

Thanks, kiwi.  K2 support said it might crack my frame by using the beast fork.

No way.

Only the 97 beast used the chubby telescopic forks, which had 4 inches of travel. The 96 beast used a either a vector or a 3 inch slider.

But the good news is that any of the proflexes can utilize up to 4 inch travel forks safely. 5 inches and up can put too much load on the top tube.

Dual crown forks amplify the load on the top tube also. In fact, I would trust any single crown fork up to 5 inches. I use a 3 inch/5 inch Psylo on my 4000 with no worries.

any any 96 bike had the spacers to allow the use of a 1 inh steerer in a 1 and 1/8 headset.Hopefully you can switch everything over.I beleive the parts are readily available if you dont have em
