I dont believe any of the upstanding people on this site would post any, or even read any of this garbage, how low have these spammers sunk. we need to let them know it is of no use for them to bother posting anything on this site,
              BLOCK EM' ALL KIWI

I agree. Block them if you can. I've been deleting about 6 per day,  and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has.. However, I doubt it's as easy as that...

Maybe it's time to ask Dave for help.  I just deleted 4 for today.  I lost track of the others.  It is a pain because I still have to open and briefly scan.  There was one last week that didn't have any links and appear to be religious.  I had to read it several times.  I finally deleted it on the premise that it was OT.

If it's off-topic and not posted by a registered member of the forum, it's gone. Period. I don't know if we'll be able to get rid of them completely unless we require registration, which is starting to be more appealing every time I delete a bogus post...

Does this mean that we should stop deleting the posts so that you can identify the ip addresses before deleting them?

delete them, maybe make a post in the "register to post" thread with the ip numbers or pm me the ip numbers...I check the against the members to make sure i aint blockin a legitimate member...unless theyre double crossin us.....

Pardon my ignorance, but where are you finding the IP addresses? I don't see them anywhere in the messages.

Just to let you know I deleted a post from Devid-777.  It initally appears to be a legit post.  It did seem strange because it ask about avatars but this person is posting as a guest.  There are hidden links buried in the words linking to some various Russian sites.  I think it's a new way to have posts in various forums with hidden links.

Here's the post:

"Hi to everybody!
I'm a "fresher" here.
I'd like to have an avatar, (like other "forumers"). But I don't know how to do this. ;-(
Could you, please help me. Does anybody know where to download it?
Or if I have a large picture, is it possible to make it smaller, and suitable for the forum?
By the way, what it the limit size, in pixels and kb?

Thanks in advance.. "

Here's one of the hidden links.  I took out one of the w so it won't show up as a link for the spammer:

These buggers are getting clever.

Interesting. What browser are you using? I don't get that in Firefox or Internet Explorer...

BTW, have you noticed what happens if you click on "Help"? It takes you to a page that says:

THIS SITE HACKED BY Lejoner You know Lejoner? You will be learn \"WHAT DOES NOT DESTROY ME MAKES ME STRONGER!

I thinks its more to do with the fact that i am an admin than the browser

You mean Moderator, not browser. Administrators are usually granted a little more priveledge then Moderator's on most boards.

This is what I was talking about earlier with getting Dave involved. There's something that's hacked into HIS stuff and we're just kinda eating it. He's got a back door open again that needs to be slammed shut.

Buggers getting clever? I don't think that's the right phrase - un-lazy would be more appropriate. The various 'bots aren't being employed as much as it's being done manually (perhaps the hackers have been getting bored?!?!) and that's why you are finding more elaborate messages being posted. Hackers have message boards too, you know - i'm sure they're sitting there posting about this place being an easy target. At the very least their "Engrish" is getting better.

Anyone remember what happened last year (last year?) with a particular no-name looser hacking this place and getting it shut down for a few days? You can easily bet that it may very well happen AGAIN without getting a grip on this sooner rather then later. The problem just gets compounded with time.

BIG CUDOS for you guys doing a good job so far, but you'll get tired of it soon enough (if you aren't already? hmmmm?) and there's more of "them" then there are of you.

Kinda sad that morons out there get their kicks on this stuff, really. Why can't everyone just be a normal peeping Tom like the rest of us?

Yep. We moderators only get to delete/modify posts. As far as I know, there are no other special permissions to do anything.

And, yes, we ARE getting tired of deleting posts...
