Title: Help a newbie w/Proflex 857
Post by: fz4vgq on May 09, 2003, 05:08:36 am
Hi Guys, I am about to put together a new bike consisting of a new 857 frame from ediscount. I checked Daves page but didn't find the info I was looking for. So my questions are:

1. what size front derailleur?
2. top or bottom swing?
3. with a '03 XT crankset what size ES71 bottom bracket? 68mm or 73mm shell width? 113 or 118mm spindle?
4. seatpost diameter?

Since this new frameset has been sitting for more than a few years is there any thing I should do to the noleen shock before riding? lube the shock shaft? and also, are the cable ferrules (the ones that go on the downtube) available anywhere? my frame didn't come with them.

Thanks Guys,
fz4vgq

31.8
bottom
68 x 113  pretty darn sure..at least
27.2

i'd cycle the shock......
take the spring off and compress it with the damper turned all the way off and then all the way on. you should see a marked difference in rebound speed of the shaft. it should also be somewhat hard to compress.

don't know about the ferrels
you could put some lube on the shaft if you want, i always used synthetic chain lube, the shaft should pick up some oil and lubricate itself.

there are places to get it rebuilt if it needs work
