saw a proflex beast for sale an i would like to know if it is good for downhill, and would like to know more about it all i know is it a repainted proflex beast.

It looks very similar to the 97 beast that I had. It has a Stratos Helix shock (not available anymore) which gives it over 5 inches of travel on the back. The fork is a Chubby 4 inch travel.
Yes, it is pretty good pointed downhill, but I would not call it a Downhill bike. It does make a great freeride bike though. In it's current trim, I would guess it weighs about 31 lbs.
If you could score it for $300 or less, it would be a nice buy.

you can get the rear shock rebuilt.
if you put on a Risse, you will have OEM (~3") travel though, I think

Yes, but that's probably one of the best options on the market. No reason to replace with something that's not an "upgrade." Unless you want a lighter air shock (the Risse), you don't have much choice...
