Title: More questions!  Rear NR-1 vs Front NR-1
Post by: Akagi on April 05, 2006, 01:41:30 pm
Are the front and rear shock (they are NR1s) and springs interchangable?  They look to be the same.

I want to throw my current front spring on the rear shock.  And see what my options are for a new front shock, or maybe just get a lighter spring.

If I recall correctly, the rear springs are usually about twice as "heavy" as the front ones. I know one of my LBS's has a front SmartShock, and if I recall correctly, it's got a 225 or 250 lb spring on it. That's way too light for a rear shock.

Also, depending on what frame you have, the length and eyelet configuration may be different...

I weigh around 130, So I think a 200 pound spring for the rear (which is rated up to 140 pounds) shoudl be good for a couple of years, before my slowing metabolism catches up :P

Akagi,

Yeah... that sounds like about the right spring. There is a spring table somewhere on this site. It's very useful.

Remember, if your rear damper is in decent shape, it will overcome such a light spring. You may have to change to a very light oil for a 200# spring.

Enjoy,
