can a noleen spring be used on a....fox, or on a stratos, or vice-versa.
-
not really! Although someone has probably done it.
On my Evo the spring is longer on the Fox shock and different stroke to the original NR spring

springs are designed for a certain shock stroke.
IMHO
you can get away with it if it 1) fits within the retainer collars 2) you can preload it a little (2 turns) 3) won't bind when the shock bottoms out. 4) get proper sag (has to do with spring weight and not stroke.

I called MRP to find out if they had a spring for my Stratos. They said there spings fit Stratos, Fox, Risse etc. I tried a Fox spring on my Stratos but the coils were a little larger which were a little to close to the shock body for my taste. Bottom line as stated just make sure it fits- a spring is a spring.

i have said this before..go to a local spring place with your spring and ask the shop to wind you another one but at the rate that you want.Heck they will even wind you a progressive and they will tell you the rate of your current spring if you dont know.If you have a bare shock take it along although you will have to know the shock travel.
