Just bought a 2005 Razorback 3.0 frame on ebay (has not arrived yet) from the picture the compression strut looks like alloy but all the information i can find states that they are carbon. did the 2005 frame come out in two versions, one carbon and one alloy? the only information on the K2 web site is the frame assembly pdf, which lists only one part number for the compression strut for all versions of the frame. i could just wait for the frame to turn up but i am just wondering if i am actualy getting a 2005 model frame.

Is this you?:

Just to help others identify the frame...
Jamie: Have a look at this one, does the fact that this says it's SL and has carbon mean that yours just isn't an SL?

Yep that is the frame that i bought. did not really research the frame before buying it, one of those last minute ebay finds. i read somewhere that all the razorback models shared the same frame just different components, must have been for a earlier model. does any one know the weight difference for between the sl and standard Razorback? is it just the compression strut that is different or is there more to it than that? have not been able to find very much specific info on the frame, any info would geatly appreciated.

Well how cool is that. I never knew that the noleen shock was replaced with Fox. [smiley=nod.gif]
Honestly I think your purchase is spot on. Now YOU get to spec the rest of the components.
Nice frame! And have fun building it.
Let us know how you like it.

Reading MTBR forum http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=174793&highlight=Razorback it appears that the frame is actually a 2004 in 2005 colours with a 2005 fox shock on it. Maybe a batch over stock from K2 someone got cheap an is selling on ebay. Another frame was sold the week before mine to a guy in Belgium.
The rest of the bike will be built up as follows, I have all of the pieces apart from the frame (fingers crossed it actually turns up). The Michilin tyres are heavy but I am doing the Central Australian Bike challenge, a week long race out of Alice springs in the very centre of Australia. Thorns, thorns, and more thorns and of course sand. I used them last year without one puncture.
Frame. K2 Razorback 2004/05? Fox float 2550g?
Forks. Fox 100x 1680g

All comes to a grand total of 10951g, with all the extras like grease, cable outers, tubeless tyre sealant etc should still come in under 11.3 kg not bad considering the tyres weigh almost as much as the wheels. I will send a picture when its finished.

Frame came in at 2700g +/- 100g (5.94pound) on the digital bathroom scales around 200g over what i was after in a XC frame [smiley=worry.gif]. not that 200g i going to make much difference to my riding anyway. the only other weight i could find was on weight weenies at 2550 grams for a 2001. i think they have beefed up the framed with bracing since then.
anyone got a carbon strut (for a medium not too worried what year) lying around they want to part with.

That's still not much over 25lbs. My bro-in-law's new C'dale Scalpel weighs about that much with some pretty awesome parts spec. (CrossMax SL wheels, lots of carbon, etc). That's certainly light enough to race! Have fun!
