Title: This is not a Disco Monkey. Right?
Post by: shovelon on January 31, 2006, 02:21:33 am
Fom what I can tell it has a carbon swingarm, but my office computer can't showl if it has disk brake on rear. Did Kay-too make a carbon rear  Monkey? Wacky paintjob.

Definitely a carbon swingarm, definitely a rear disc brake (must have an adaptor), definitely NOT a Disco Monkey, and definitely NOT a "2000?" model.

Carbon swingarms were last used in 1999. They NEVER came stock with disc mounts. That frame has the square down tube like the '98s (my two 5000s, for example). Starting in '99, they all had round down tubes (including all Disco Monkeys).

The mounting holes for the rear shock are not the same as my '98s though, so it could be a different model, but I think it may actually just be a small (can somebody confirm that the small frames have this mounting point/seatpost style?) There were also some "low-end" K2s that had this style frame (e.g. the 3000s after they stopped making them with struts), but as far as I know, none of those ever had square down-tubes or carbon swingarms.

My best guess is this is a '98 4000 or 5000 in size small with a rear disc adaptor (which I wish had a better picture in the auction).

I kind of like the paint job, but it would be much better if he had just painted continuous red stripes instead of those funky "ripped" looking ones.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but that looks exactly like my '00 EVO 4.0 frame with aluminum swingarm.

As previously mentioned thats a painted carbon arm,
the aluminium s/arm's have a slightly more squared
off look at the angled section plus on the al s/arm the shifter cable runs
externally not internally.
