Title: Your Christmas present for yourself was....
Post by: Frankd3000 on December 23, 2005, 04:08:32 am
Well, for me it's a two-part'er.

Part one resides beside me - a 2001 Noleen Mega Air for. Used, no stickers, already VTO'd to 100 mm (has original spacer's) and came with the brake post's, too. E-Bay'd for $138 and it's really in great shape. This will be the fork to go with my new (used) frame, which is ......

...... Part two will be revealed on Monday if everything goes smoothly at the border. ;)

So, you bought ...... ?

Good for you Andrew, a GREEN CARD. With that everything will go well at the border. [smiley=laughing.gif]

You lucky dog, you got ona them Mega Airs.

What? You say no Green Card. Oh well you don't need those anymore anyway. Just don a raincoat and run like hell. Just write your name on all your stuff, and you get to keep on your free ride back across the border. [smiley=nod.gif]

Mine, it has something with the letters TIT in it.

Well, I'm going cheap this year...

Bought a Bontrager Race front wheel (non disc for my single speed) for $2 on Ebay ("true with smooth hubs").

Just bought a brand new set of 2.2" Specialized Enduro tires for the same bike for $15 (free shipping). I'm hoping to get a little softer ride than I've been getting with semi-slicks...

Now, if only Santa would bring me a new REAR wheel for said bike (and heck, while he's at it, I'd like a lighter frame!)

My feet love me.  I picked up a pair of Lake MXZ 301s.  80 bucks lower than the MSRP, even. [smiley=nod.gif]   I like to hike-a-bike and plow through snow drifts, etc.  Yeah, I end up walking a bit.  The shoes are great.  Metal tipped toe cleats help on the ice too.   The Oz likes snow too.

I got my S2000 a nice set of Bridgestone  S-03 rubber for the rears.  She'll be so happy (which makes me happy)

Introducing Part 2....

Don't worry - Frank will most certainly be seeing PLENTY of action even though this bike is here.

Weight as shown is 25.3 pounds. That'll start coming down quickly enough.

Very nice, like the colour reminds me of my old 853,

let me know how it rides as I've not ridden
a full susser that runs with no sag like the NRS.

those forks would look great the same colour as the frame  ;)

Simon.

Hey, COOL! Another Torontonian! Welcome!!!!! Where you at?

Congrats on the steel-impregnated rubber. ;) I'm sure you need it on the Don. [smiley=laughing.gif] Post up and introduce yourself.

Terry - HAHAHAHAHA! Yyyyyyyup. New wheels and brakes are being looked into. That should kill off another pound-and-a-half. ;) No, i'm not waiting untill Christmas next year. Hmmm, maybe i'll have to buy a Valentine's Day gift because I love her. [smiley=laughing.gif]

What about YOU? Your hint left a LOT to the imagination (TIT). Was that abbr'v for ti, or were you getting a pair? :o

You got it Andrew. I do get the same pair wrapped in the same package every year.  ;)

But what I got for myself this year was a project crankset. It is a rare pair of Morati titanium crankarms. I scored some RaceFace chainrings, and am in the process of trying to score a square taper Ti BB.

The driveside crankarm had 2 cracks in it. I actually purged and welded them yesterday(6AL4V). The 5 bolt inner chainring needed 4 spacers, so I turned them out of stainless and welded them to the stainless inner for rigidity. Then I shaved the dickens out out of it to lighten it up. I just have to find some 16 mm chainring bolts and I can mount up to the 957.

I also got a Wicked Sisters brake cable pulley that is half the weight of my Travel Agent.

Another cool present is the cartridge bearing upgrades that Simon did for me, and Will graciously escorted them to England. Thanks guys!

Terry

I got myself two:

#1 Fresh from Ebay

The first one is going on #2 which is a Haro Werks XCS that will share duties with my EVO. Picture to follow as soon as I get my gallery figured out.

Matno how do you find the deals you get on Ebay, I'm jealous. When ediscount was selling the Mega Airs I bid on about six of them but only got one which is on my hardtail and has performed flawlessly. This one I bit the bullet on and paid the buy it now price.

I waste a lot of time on eBay. Probably not worth it. No, DEFINITELY not worth it. It's my worst vice.

Thanks for the link Simon. That BB sure looks nice with it's sealed bearings.

I was looking at American Classic. They mention that the bearings have grease ports. Maybe I should shy away from it.

FSA does make some good BBs for the money.

Dennis, does that MegaExo fit your Carbon Team cranks? I thought that the MegaExo is a full crankset.

I didn't buy anything for myself.  I did get a $200 gift certificate to a LBS.  I'll probably spend it on the new X type XT crankset.   [smiley=laughing.gif]

Funny, normally, I would never spend my money to buy it yet I spent a lot more money for others (girls) during Christmas.  :P

apart from a new rear bumper (fender in american) for the Subaru after a little off road excursion...

I got the 2001 Razorback RS back into gears:
+ FSA ISIS cranks and BB
+ SRAM X.7 mechs and twist shifters
+ new chain and cassette.
+ new bars and FSA stem

The bike is working very well and I am totally convinced that ISIS is the way to go.  The bike is light and after a ride up into the Ochil hills (in scotland) last weekend am loving the bike.  It's like new.

;D :) ;)well, mine is a new road frame.
http://www.performancebike.com/product_images/400/30_6997RED.jpg
i need to lose some weight and have re-committed to getting some road time in. but my road bike is a steel frame/fork old scott bike. it weighs as much as my vt-2. so, for $199, i couldn't pass up the chance to move up to a lighter frame/fork. i hope to start off swapping parts from the old bike to the new frame. then, i can start upgrading bit by bit. that way the wife won't notice as much. she agreed to the purchase also because it didn't add another bike to the fold.

Her is my early birthday present. Ok I admit it was last years bithday present. I've been building it slowly and is now ready for public use (bike porn that is) I have an interesting story about the design scheme I made . But that I will save for latter.
Balfa was a good old independent Canadain company that was involved in a takeover in 04. The new owners Procycle (still canadian, owners of miele, Rockymountain, CCM bikes and many others) have a good workforce. Many of them live in Quebec and seem helpfull to my concerns. Ultimatly it is hard to otherwise speak good of such a monopolising company. the company made another suspected deal with a UK based company. But this last acquizition is still hazy. I still cannot verify the rightful owners of its name.
Well the irony is that I own an orphaned brand again.
First proflex second Balfa. I can only put it best in these words "good luck finding parts".

It is stll not done yet. I will post when I have some better parts on it. And yes I will never race XC with it. I realize that.

Send for Dudley Do-right!  Save that bike from the oncomming train! [smiley=laughing.gif] Good thing you are in CANADA.  ;)

Very nice man! I know that it is not the quantity of travel but the quality that matters.  I have quoted Joseph Stalin here once before.

"Quantity has a quality of it's own."

riight you are shovelon. Comon though it has 6.69" of travel and 7 up font. Those are modest numbers for a Downhiller. Trains pass by more frequently then you think.

My bike holiday season acquisitions:

* Marzocchi Bomber Z1 FR (awaiting a suitable frame)

* Marzocchi Z2 Xfly (going on the specialized)

* Specialized FSR S-works frame (still on the stand)

* Noleen Mega Air fork (on its way... will go on one on the 856es)

* A 757 front triangle to go with the swingarm I had bought earlier (awaiting its turn on the stand)

* some hayes cable disc brakes on jensonusa

* A2Z UNI disc brake adapters (which don't seem to fit on any of my proflexes!... what the heck do I have to do to fit disc brakes on my k2 3000?)

* 2 new sets  of wheels

* stans notubes kit

* some tires

yikes.  too much stuff!

 8) I scored a 757 frame from a single speeder, and another Noleen crosslink fork from ediscount bike. Since I couldn't decide on old 8 speed or new 9 speed. I took inspiration from the previous owner, and single speeded it, and am having a blast. Probably going to strip it down later and repaint it. Then hang some nice new sram 9 speed on it. If I can get rid of my Big S nine speed.
