Hey guys,
My 4000 had the left rear alloy brake mount fail after a bit of a spill in the weekend.[smiley=disbelief.gif] [smiley=diaper.gif]
It's the little alloy bit epoxied into the carbon swingarm, with 3 holes for the brake spring. both the alloy and the epoxy failed. Has anyone else expereinced this? Does anyone know where I can get a new mount to epoxy into place?
I know this would be an indeal time to upgrade to disk brakes but as I'm currently starting my own business I'm a little low on $$$$

Pity no one has listed a bunch of evo swingarms on ebay!!!

this has happened to a few others over the last 5 years with carbon swingarms. I think OP & Sprucey have the best knowledge in this area - but involves getting hold opf some epoxy glue and essentially glueing it back in place.
anyone any ideas?

You might look for a frameset on Ebay. It may have a decent swingarm. I saw one with an ovaled headtube that went cheap.

I think I should be able to repair the damage, I just need a new alloy brake mount. Does anyone know if these are K2 specific parts or are they a standard part?
Any recommendations for epoxy, I was thinking JB weld or Quick Steel.
Should I rough up the carbon around the area to give it better bonding strength??

The official word from the guys at K2 is, and I quote!
"Dang, you'll be needing a new swing arm!"
No little aluminium brake mounts to be had!! So if I do need a new swing arm should I be able to fit an alloy arm to my 4000?? ;)

Or a Monkey!
in which case it could become a Disco Monkey with a rear disc!!

An aluminium swing arm is a straight swop if you can find one,gives you another option,
will only work on an evo style frame, mods needed for a carbon frame though,
you won't find a weight difference either.

Tried the overkill approach. Roughed everything up and slathered on sooooo much epoxy that I nearly ended up permanently attached to my ride! :-/
I left it to cure for two days then tested it out a few times before taking it out to the new commonwealth games tracks at lysterfield. It survived 3 hours of abuse before loosing it in the berms section ::) which resulted in some impressive, yet unplanned air time. Hence I'm nursing several bruises and a nicely bent set of riserbars. :-[
So I've learnt a valuable lesson about not making dodgey repairs to brakes!! So now I'm thinking I need to add a disc ;)
Does anyone have a home made adapter they're not using???
Any hub recomendations??

If I do find myself an evo swing arm do I have to worry about what frame it came off? Or is the swing arm size standard on all the frame sizes?

Any s/arm from an Evo be it aluminium or carbon will
fit it doesn't matter either if the Evo pivot is bushes
or the later needle bearing pivot the s/arms will still fit,also a carbon arm from an Oz/4500/5500 will fit.

Are you saying that my Evo alum swingarm with the sealed bearings will transfer right onto my Oz? And vice versa?

Ahh NO,the Evo alum s/arm with the needle bearings in the frame is the same as the Evo s/arm that has bushes,its just the pivot system that changed not the s/arm,BUT the Alum s/arm will fit a carbon only with some major mods,its a clearance issue with the thicker carbon frame body,checkout my gallery for pic's of the mods I had to do to get an Alum s/arm from an Evo to fit my 4500,and that a s/arm that used the frame mounted needle roller bearings.
