Title: will four to six foot drops kill a 120mm mx comp?

there are a few sweet opportunities to take a little drop on the downhills on my local trails and I have just about built up the nerve to give it a go...except that I love my new marzocchi and I don't wan to kill it.  2005 coil/air with eta 120mm.  That's probably not important info but I felt like bragging.  Anyone know if this will survive the fall?  Oh, I guess I should also ask if my noleen nr-2 in the rear will take the hit as well.  The drops are to flat ground.

I would guess that the fork and shock would survive, but it may do a number on your frame, depending on which model you have.

If you have a Beast, Animal, or  Flying Monkey, the frame should take it.

I dunno... in the last few months we all heard about Jinder's broken seat tube and someone else's broken head tube.

There may have been a few other broken bits... didn't you crack something Terry?

I know Jinder's a thin guy and he's probably not doing any superman hucks, but he cracked a 9 series bike. If you're weight is up there (like mine!) you may be in for problems.

Think about how hard your rear shock is bottoming out and are you keeping the weight off your seat? Remember, a six foot drop hits a lot harder than a four footer, too.

Definitely wouldn't do it on concrete... but fly man, FLY!

I thought I cracked my Oz. But it was just a manufacturing blemish. It just creaks and groans now.

I have repaired headtubes, seatpost tubes, downtubes and the llike.

With the leverage of the 120 mm forks, dropoffs with a lightweight frame is sketchy.

At the risk of being a boring old sod I have to say that the MXCXomp is an XC fork and not designed to handle big drops.

In this litigious world, it is probably well over engineered and would probably survive but so much depends on jump, height, landing incline etc etc.

Pls just have the honesty that if it does fail on (or after) a 4ft drop not to try and claim on the warranty as "I was just riding along". The evidence of a previous will be there somewhere.

Marzocchi make a range of forks called Dirt Jumpers for just this use.

Having said all that - I weigh 220pounds, ride a 120mm Marathon coil on mmy Oz and do some pretty stupid things on it!
