Title: 5000 back on the trail....well road anyhow
Post by: junkster on September 27, 2005, 12:15:30 am
Hi all,
Since my XC pro air/oil Stratos rear shock died and the temp coil replacement lasted a month before spectacularly disintegrating, (see 1st link below), I have been without bike. Thanks to Jeffhop, (cheers Jeff [smiley=beer.gif]), I managed to get an old rear ODS unit and with my usual hamfisted modding and a 550lbs/in coil shock, I had the bike back on the road in time for the 85mile Oxford to Cambridge British Heart Foundation ride this past Sunday 25th. (Which I managed non stop in 6 1/2hrs (http://idriders.com/newforum/YaBBImages/grin.gif) Works like a dream.

The 1st attempt before it failed:

Damn I've gotta loose weight

The ODS with the Eibach MSPRO5 coil spring, since replaced with a stiffer 550lbs/in coil spring:

The current setup which survived a 30mile ride and an 85mile one with no probs, (granted both road rides):

I have no doubt there will be a few horrified looks as ya see the destroyed first attempt.  [smiley=nod.gif]

My bike as it stands at the mo:

I just can't afford an air/oil replacement at the mo. Suits me fine for now, though with a 550lbs/in coil shock (I am 15.8st, (220lbs odd) perhaps I'll need to swap out the ODS oil. Whaddya reckon people?

cheers [smiley=beer.gif]

Dan

Will be interested to hear how it performs offroad,
anyway its got you mobile again and thats what counts,
the ODS was noted for being over damped, provided no one has changed the unit to lighter fluid then you shouldn't need to change it even with the spring your using,
Simon.

glad to see you made it through the charity ride, and for the same charity that i did the coast to coast for earlier this year ( very deserving charity in my opinion ) that ods unit has done some milage for the heart foundation this year   :)  as far as the oil in the shock goes, all the time i owned it i never changed it so i would assume it was the standard weight.

Hi Jeff,
wow - I did the Capital Coast to Coast (Escher College to Hove - 60miles) this year - What a coincidence! (http://idriders.com/newforum/YaBBImages/cool.gif)I Started cycling at around 8 and came in at around 1.40pm. Saddlescoombe was a real killer wasn't it? I was within the first 400 riders, (1600 odd did it I think). Odds of seeing ya Proflex would have been unlikley. How'd you do?(http://idriders.com/newforum/YaBBImages/smiley.gif)
Simon - How do? Yeah, will let you know re performance. Actually I have a feeling this is the coil spring you sold me a year or so back.  [smiley=nod.gif]As ever mine are not ideal fixes but due ta being oh so brassic and not having any particular engineering expertise I make do. This is far far stronger than the temp Girvin coil shock that fell apart though. [smiley=nod.gif](http://idriders.com/newforum/YaBBImages/grin.gif)

dan, we did the c2c from whitehaven to sunderland about 160 miles, was good fun and id like to do it again but in a day rather than the two we did it in this year. i was taking to the people i did the c2c with at the weekend and next years challenge maybe one of those 24hr endurance races, something to look forward to!

hiya Jeff, oops, forgot you were up that way and there are probably other coast to coast runs(http://idriders.com/newforum/yabbimages/emoticons/redface.gif)
Wow I am not worthy - 2 days riding, practically twice the distance I cycled Sun. (http://idriders.com/newforum/YaBBImages/shocked.gif)
