Title: Half carbon porn
Post by: Simon on September 23, 2005, 09:13:07 pm
As often mentioned here we all tend to keep an eye
on any new carbon bike products (as Proflex/K2 no longer contributes to this material  :()ok they have the Razerback strut but thats it,
anyway as also previously mentioned I have an interest in the Whyte brand of bikes so to my suprise
I find Jon (Whyte) has added a carbon s/arm to his
quad link design and produced a 700g s/arm on a
5" F/R travel bike at 26Lbs,now I don't know which I
want most the Whyte46 or the new E-5 :-[
also have a look at the new seat post clamp design on the 19 & 46,he does bring out some nice new designs, wish K2 would employ his services, (or someone like him)just like Marin and get them selves back up towards to top end of the market again like they were as Proflex with the 855/856 etc plus the carbons :P
and hey doesn't that s/arm weave look just like it came off the K2 carbon arm [smiley=nod.gif]

Wow. Two firsts: a bottle cage mounted on the swingarm! and a shock that's completely enshrouded by the swingarm. How the heck do you adjust the shock?! Seems like you could barely even touch it, let alone attach a pump to it or turn knobs...

Overall, the bike looks pretty sweet. However, I think their other monocoque frames look cooler. Plain round tubes seem kind of boring compared to an Oz...

26 lbs though, that's pretty nice.

that really is hardcore porn.  I had better clear out the internet browser history and browser cache otherwise I'll be getting divorced.

any prices?  the whyte stuff us always very expensive.  The PRST-1 bikes were $5000 at one stage!!

If you click on the link on my first posting this gives pricing, quick test and explanations of reasonings behind some of the ideas,
Matno the testers liked the shock covered by the s/arm as it gave mud protection (they didn't comment about any adjustment limitations, have to wait for a more indepth test for that)yes I'm unsure about the looks compared to the 46 but the lnkage idea that the shock shares the same mounting bolts as the linkage is sweeeeet, more info from the link,
Rapiddecent pricing is competative for over here anyway [smiley=laughing.gif]
46 price stays the same £2700
New E-5 XT Spec £2800
      E-5 Thomson,FSA Carbon chainset, Goodridge,Sram X0 Spec £3175
