I am looking for advise on an inexpensive upgrade for the mcu's on my 856. especially the rear. I am 6'2", 235lbs. and primarily ride Vermont xc singletrack. I'm not very good at it and tend to mash the pedals.
I contacted mountainspeed (now eko sports) and they informed me that they have plenty of front springs(237!) left but no rear conversions. they also mentioned that the only differance was that the rear was 1/8" longer. They said that the springs are not rated by rider wieght but by number. They have #1,2,4,5,and 6 in stock. SO,
1.) will the front springs work in the rear?
2.) If so, what # spring do I use (front and rear)?
3.) Does anyone have a better solution?
P.S. The price on the ms springs are ridicuously cheap($39.00). Thanks

I'm amazed that MRP have any in stock, they told me that they had sold out 3 years ago. essentially (this is from memory) the springs work in front or rear on an ODS shock. Yes, they do overlap a but. The COR springs are the ones that I sell. I haven't actually seen them side-by-side but this is from my experience selling MRP for 5 years and now that I've been designing the COR from paper:
MRP Spring | COR Spring | front | rear |
1 | x | very light riders <84lbs | x |
2 | COR MF | light riders <100lbs | x |
3 | COR MF | 120 - 180lbs | x |
4 | COR MR/COR HF | 200+ riders | <120 lbs |
5 | COR MR | x | 120 - 190lbs |
6 | COR MR/COR HR | x | 175 - 220lbs |
7 | COR HR | x | 200lbs + riders |

You will notice the 7 spring. I used to sell the 7 springs with the long travel kit because they were very hard. Also good for very hard/heavy riders.

Thanks callum,
I appreciate all the info. It looks like the MS springs will be too soft. I'll be ordering a set of springs from you soon!
