Title: early Pro-flex
Post by: laffeaux on September 08, 2005, 02:00:07 pm
I recently pickup a 1990 Offroad Pro-Flex off of eBay.  It was built by Serotta, and designed by KG Engineering (I assume that Bob Girvin is the "G" in KG).

I purchased it from the second owner, who said that the original owner said that there were only 125 built.  The original owner was bike shop employee in New York.

Does anyone know anymore about these bikes?  Were there really only 125 built?

Bob Girvin's write-up in the MTB Hall of Fame says, "the first marketed suspension frame as a complete bike was in 1990 as the OFFROAD brand RF-1, which used elastomer suspension."  I assume that this is that model.

Thanks for any info.

I don't know about the 125 number, as lots of that style were sold under the Offroad label.

But your bike is sweet. I wish it was mine!

One thing that is defining is the lack of pivots at the rear dropout. Eventualy pivots were standard. Surprising that the proflex label is on your bike. The only Proflex labeled bikes I have seen had pivots above the dropout.

Maybe you do have a limited edition model.

On second thought, it is not so good. You need to sell it to ME! [smiley=laughing.gif] [smiley=laughing.gif] [smiley=laughing.gif]LOL

I have one just like yours but I just refinished painting the whole thing. It had the exact same colors. I am selling mine if you know anyone interested. Look mine up under the galleries section.
