Title: 856 Drivetrain Replacement
Post by: randy_page on July 21, 2005, 12:16:56 pm
Hi All,

I am getting ready for some upgrades to my old 856, and have a few questions:

1) What's the deal with the front derailleur?   Will it take a standard XT derailleur?
2) Are there any issues with the crankeset/BB?   Will a setup from Shimano's current lineup work?
3) How about the rear derailleur?  Are there any issues there I should be concerned with?

Thanks!

Randy

Front mech, I use standard (conventional)swing XT bottom pull 31.8,
no real issues on the crankset,I wouldn't exceed 44t on outer chainring, any bigger then you have to move the front mech up as far as it will go,though this may allow a bigger chainring,
Rear mech, what ever you like as long as it matches the shifter your using.

Simon,

Thanks for the info.   That's just what I am looking for.   Do you by chance know if the SRAM X.9 front derailleur will work as well?

Thanks!

Sorry thats something I can't accurately answer,
I've no experiance of the X.9 and looking at it it appears bulkier than a shimano equivalent, this could
cause problems as the front der runs very close to the s/arm pivot, hopefully someone else will have the
difinitive answer.
