Title: Fair price for a Proflex 756
Post by: doolin64 on June 30, 2005, 11:10:25 pm
I'll have to post a picture but it looks real close to the 856 in this thread
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=97219
Except it's electric blue and I have a stratos air shock on the rear. It's in great shape. Pretty much showroom condition. It still has the original tires and brake pads! I have the original elastomer setup somewhere in my garage as well. That being said, I'm looking to sell this and change over to a newer hardtail bike. Whats a fair price and where's the best place to find a market to sell this bike?

wow that looks somewhat familiar....even teh saddle is the same!!!!My favourite question what size.....looking at the rear shock mount tand the length of the stem i would say a large or even a way big or 20...with a bit of luck the sticker will still be on the back of the seat tube just below the brake cable port......

It's a large.  I'm sure all the stickers are still there too.  [smiley=nod.gif]

Hmmm... Fair price?

Well you've got some really good stuff and some
"issues" that modern shoppers may struggle with:

The condition looks great. The rear shock looks quite special. (I'd buy it for the shock alone.) It looks complete and rideable. Very appealing...

On the other hand, it won't take disc brakes without big headaches and the old canti's aren't up to typical riding needs. The crank, BB, and I think the derailleurs are awfully old school.

It's one of those "Gee, I'd love to get that bike but..."

Call me a cheapskate, but I'd hate to pay $300. Then again, it would be a good riding bargain at $250. And then there's shipping...

Remember, bike shops are selling brand spankin' new hardrocks with decent gruppos and disc brakes for $350.

If I hadn't just got another 856...  nah.

All the best.

Yeah the rear shock is nice.  Especially with the twist of the knob and it fully locking out the suspension.   As for the derailerrs, I'm not sure how they'd be "Old school"  They're shimano LX. I k now thats not top of the line but I can imagine the "LX" version has changed much.  If I could get $300for this bike I'd be very happy.  I understand what your saying about the brakes, although I've never had a stopping problem with these. Granted there's better options today but these still stop fine.

more importantly Im interested in purchasing the bike.... I noticed the auction on ebay and I could pick up the bike  paying cash and save you time and the hassle of mailing out the bike and waiting for payment ...  interested ?

I would have most definately done this.  But once the auction reached the reserve I couldn't stop it. A member of the military stationed at an AFB in Europe actually purchased it.
