Title: Rear shock help
Post by: uk856 on June 27, 2005, 07:17:09 pm
Can anyone tell me if a Fox float RL 7.25" x 1.75" will fit a standard 856 rear end. I have just put a Skareb 80mm on the front. If the Fox is of no use, can anyone suggest an alternative.
Thanks

Yes & no...

It can be made to fit but will require some creative fabricating.

I was looking at Fox Floats last night for this very reason since I just came into a brand spankin' new 856. Having just modded a Manitou QR to fit, I noticed the Fox shock would have more challenging clearance problems. It would probably have to go upside-down and be drilled & tapped & tapered to fit the conical recess. (Yes, it IS a big pain in the patooty.)

If you decide to do this, let me know and I can give you a couple of good tips. If not, I could buy your shock & give it a try on my 856.

Either way, best of luck.

Regards from Texas,
Will

Oh yeah... an alternative... If you still have your ODS that used to have the elastomers on it, you can replace the elastomers with a spring kit available through this website. That's gotta be the easiest and most robust solution.

Hi Will
It was just a thought, I saw a new one on Ebay for a £100. I will probably go for a risse with the adaptor.
