Title: Broken rear shock on 857
Post by: Ay_Gee on June 11, 2005, 09:48:08 am
My NR2  broke its shaft down by the damper adjuster on Thurday - bummer. Zip-ties got me the 10 miles home.

Now need to get the bike back on the road. I've seen some home made adapters on the site which enable other makes of shock with conventional eye mounts to be used with the 857 strut. I've got a suitable X-Fusion coil shock but need a little help with the adapters and fixing method. Can anyone help please with sizes and fixings please?

Thanks for the links to shock service sites, but my shock is totally beyond repair. All that's left is the main body and spring. The rest was mashed when it let go.

I'm sure someone out there has replaced the noleen shock with some other make by a little "engineering". Please get in touch to show me how.

UK based rider.

Stratos makes a nice shock .

Frankd3000 has done a nice adapter for a strut bike. See his gallery for pics.

Junkster's gallery if full of great ideas also. See Simon's gallery if you dare, very scary!!!!!!

Frankd3000 adapter looks just the sort of thing I'm after. I have emailed him for details of where he got it.

It looks like a yacht rigging part that is used on the end of a wire stay. I'll visit a chandlers to see if they can help. Will keep informed.

BAH! I shoulda sent you to K2 first to see what they would have said.

"You have an eight five WHAT?"
"Eight five seven"
"Oh, I didn't know we made those still"

[smiley=disbelief.gif] Okay, that one sucked, too.

I sent you a reply, Alan.

Welcome to the club!!! Like I said, you'll enjoy the many personalities here. Or at least learn to live with them (like mine).

Hi Ay Gee,
Xfusion shock should be no problem, just need to flip it round so the screw thread body of the shock is at the top and spring at the bottom, then just an adapter to connect the strut to the lower eye of the shock. I have modded adapters for an 855, (slightly diff strut recess to the 856 - that has a conical recess whereas mine was flat). Check out Will's strut mods, Tmaybees, Deano, and Frank3000's.

any help needed give us a holler.

cheers,

Dan  [smiley=beer.gif]

Currently speaking to Andrew (Frankd3000) regarding him making me an adapter the same as his for a X_Fusion shock replacement. See Frankd3000 pictures.
K2 3000 appears to be same frame as Proflex 857 so super solution.
