Post by: mhan427 on May 17, 2005, 03:58:25 am
Hi all!!!..wow  great forum! I have a virtually new 756
factory grease and all!....problem is the mcu's have gone hard,I've obtained an ods damper for the rear
and was wondering if I could replace the mcu with a coil spring??if so which??and any recomondations for the front,I see that the soft mcu's are avalible from K2 that I think are usable for the fork
any help would be fantastick!!!!

a newbe

Try contacting Callum at
RDI
he's in the process of making spring kits for the ODS
dampers.
RDI web site,
http://www.proflex.demon.co.uk/
I have a spare ODS unit for a vector fork you can
have if you wish to go down the ODS front and rear
with a spring kit route,
Simon.

Simon, thanks for the offer, yes I'm interested,
let me know what you need for the damper!!
I will try and contact Callum, thanks for the tip.
Long story short,I used to ride a Giant rigid,
it was stolen in a break in, must have been about '97'.
One of the larger bike shops was clearancing Proflex
bikes.....I think I payed $500us for mine new!!
rode it 2 or 3 times had a knee surgury, son was born,a couple of moves.blah..blah....anyway it 's been parked for a long time and I need to get this getting round 46 yr old body moving again!!
Also I need a recomondation for a good entry level
xc bike for my boy...birthday this summer and he wants to ride with me...mostly woodland trails..nothing too advanced.....YET!! (one never knows hee..hee..)

thanks again

Mike

You can have the front ODS for nothing
just arrange payment for postage,I'll look into
the postage cost to you and let you know as I'm in the UK,
Simon.

depending on how bad the mcu are the warm water trick should see you right for at least the ride if not the weekend!

The warm water method lasts for about 2 months at my bike. At least if the temperature is more than 20 degree celcius.
And a day in the sun is the same than the warm water method.
My bike stood in the sun with a hard mcu and after 2 hours the sunny side was soft.
So I wonder if I'll ever need new mcus again.

Im going over this site looking at the springs to swap against the MCU`s.
Is it as simple as it looks ?
Just excange the 2 mcu for a spring and that`s it ?

Yes,just replace the elastomers and washers over to the spring and new mounting washers (spring saddle)
you may at sometime want to experment with different damper oil weights to suit the coil spring,

Mike I'll get back yo you when I've found out the postage costs.

Simon.
