As you may know from reading my previous threads, I just came into possesion of a Romic shock to put on my Evo frame. It is 8.5" I2I, and I am told it is 2.75 inch stroke. By using the swingarm travel spreadsheet that I got from this forum, it calculated my final travel as 7.4 inches.
Is that too much? Will I be hitting the seat tube? Do I need to creat some sort of bumper/stop? I'm not really the mechanical / engineering type, so I am afraid to put this on without some discussion from the smarties on this board.

Take out the spring and compress the the shock. If there is still some space left between the swingarm and the mainframe it is ok.
But be aware:
By using a longer shock you will be sitting higher. the cranks is higher and you will have some kind of feeling as if you are loosing your balance on the trail. And you need a very long fork that fits to the shock. otherwise you will have grave angles on the geometry.
A fork which is that long will lift your front so that you are sitting more higher. And I don't know if your frame can handle double crown forks.
So check it out and tell us the results.

Putting on an 8.5" X 2.75" stroke should work. I know people are using a 7-7/8" shock with 2 inches of stroke which would bottom close to where the Romic would. Give it a try. And create another bumper if needed.

I am running the 5th Element coil in 216mm / 8.5" with 2.5" stroke on Ozm with no problems.
I am running a 120mm travel marzocchi Maraython S coil up front which is quite a tall fork to balance the ride.
Bear in mind that, if you run this travel, you wil almost certainly set it up with more sag to start.
I think OP runs the same shock as well?

I have a Marzocchi 120 in the front and a Vanilla RC 8.5 x 2.8 in the back. Lots of travel.
This combo raised the bottom bracket to about 14.25 inches. ( unweighted). Just run a little more sag than usual, and your good to go...

That's a ditto with my coil swinger at 8.5 i2i with 2.5 inches of travel. Almost 1 inch of sag works, and if it had 2.75 inches of travel it would still have clearance.

OK - it sounds like I'll be OK. I have a Psylo U-turn on the front currently, so I'll just set it at the 120mm and leave it there. From what you guys are saying, I need to dial in some sag to compensate and I should be fine. The shock is only 215mm, which is just 6mm more than stock, so letting it sag 6mm more should put it near stock height when I'm on the bike?. I will post pics when I'm done and report on the Romic's quality.

Your using the same math I am using to try figure out my shock adapter. So I'd say yes, but I'm new, so. I'm glad that I'm not the only one thinking this way.

Hi Martin,
Yes, I would say that it is of no use for your 97 beast.
First it is not a strut type shock that fits into a socket.
You could use an adapter to mount the shock, but this shock is too long. Check Frankd3000's (Andrew) gallery to see his adapter.

brain must have been switched off, was forgetting i have the weird flange at one end on my shock rather than an eyelet at both ends
