Hey everyone! This site has a lot of great info! Some of you have already helped me out through my buddy Jinder…and thanks!
I have another question…I have an 856 I picked up on eBay. It had been repainted (poorly) and now I’m stripping it down. Oddly they had painted over the original stickers. Any pictures I have seen of an early 856 do not match the sticker design I have. The stickers are Identical to the 957 design/layout. Did it come like that from the factory on newer 856 models?
Thanks
Rick

I'm pretty sure all 856 Models made the same stickers from the factory. You could just call K2 with your serial number and know for sure - without guessing and wondering.

I wouldn't be too sure... There have been a lot of variations over the years. For example, my father-in-law's '98 5000 was painted white before it was painted yellow. Unfortunately, the yellow didn't stick too well, and his bike now looks like it has leprosy. Neither of my '98 5000s have any paint under the yellow. For that matter, no 5000s were ever sold with white paint that year. Hmmm... It's not uncommon for small details (like decals) to change at different times than the actual model. For example, if they ran out of one batch of stickers before they shipped all the frames, they may have ordered a newer, slightly different batch. Or they may have had different ones put on bikes shipped to different parts of the world, for whatever reason. You never know... ::)
