Actually seen one of those in person, at Whistler last year.

The chain runs from the bb up to the internally geared rohloff hub, which is mounted in the center of the front triangle.  Then another chain runs from there to the rear end, single speed mode.

The system seems to work quite well, and considering that you need to buy very little in the way of drivetrain components, the cost isn't as bad as you would think.  Not to say that they aren't DAMN EXPENSIVE frames, mind you! :)

Overall, they are really a simple design that just looks nasty.  Now the V10 VPP from Santa Cruz, that's a wierd setup - I still haven't managed to wrap my head aroung the physics invovled there.

that looks like it should be on Sci Fi channel. One of the reasons I still love my old hardtail is that it's simple, another is that it actually looks like a bicycle. But I'm getting older and need the FS otherwise I hurt for days. [smiley=worry.gif]

Yes, I'm with you on that point numbnuts.  The frame is wild though and looks like something Sigourney Weaver might use while chasing down an alien.

4300 bucks for the Nucleon FR with Fox shock,
not as expensive as one would think? I think it is, but if I had the bucks, I would buy one. I love scifi looking stuff, plus like the Oz, I don't think I'd seen another very often!!
how about a silver anodized one with a Shiver DC fork?
tasty.

$4300 is up there, sure, but seriously, look at what comes included in the deal.  Frame, rear hub, rohloff gearing...

That drops the effective price of the frame down to the $3000 mark, or thereabouts.  That's still pricey, but it's not ridiculous.

How much would it cost to hook yourself up with a Santa Cruz V10 & Rohloff hub?  Or an Ellsworth Double Dare?  These are all top shelf bikes, and you'll pay a hell of a lot for any of them.  Matching them up with the Rohloff just blows the price right off the scale.
