Has anybody had thier K2 carbon frame painted? if so what paint type did you use?

Hey colinv.
I Polyurethened my bike eight months ago by request by a member of a fibre glass Forum. The link is self explanatory. My alias is "alain" and "carbo987" I used both names because I originally lost a password and had to register again. There was a problem with the polyurethane method. Now after eight months the mechanical bond is breaking. As I foretold on the forum under my "alain" name the polyurethane brittled off like paint.

I would first try to wet sand it and then polish it like "evannguyen" said in the second link.

Using epoxy resin is brobably better in respect to hardness and strength of the bond. Since the frame was made with Preinpregnated (PrePreg) Carbon they most likely used epoxy resin.

I will try to Urethene the frame another time, incase I followed the directions wrong.

Hey Colin,

I had my Oz painted and also a Giant carbon HT. I had them professionally done. My carbon Calfee is also painted. I know that House of Kolor candies and pearls work fine.

In my experiemce in the marine world you should really look at an epoxy based paint rather than polyeurethane. It will bond better with eepoxy resin in the carbon lay up.
