Dennis,

I've been having fun with an 856. Actually, she came as a naked frame & now she's all dressed up... I guess that's not very good bike porn.

I think I did a pretty slick job on the disk brake mounts fore & aft. And I just put Formula B4's on last week. (No pix with the new brakes in the gallery.)

There's a neat deal on these frames I discovered while building it up with a single chainring: the swingarm pivot is perfectly located for an upper chain idler. Very elegant solution to chain bounce when you dont have a front deraileur.

When I finally get this thing done as a belt driven, Rohloff hubbed rig, it should be hardcore.

For now, it's sittin' pretty in the gallery. Took a four foot drop at speed today and was beggin' for more. Nice ride!

Dumb noob question... what's bike porn... any pics, close-ups.. half dressed?
I've got some shiney new stuff put on that might be nice, but I'd say it's amatuer or home-movie quality stuff..

just a question.

Simon,

thanks, looks like an older site, but the pics are still cool. wonder what happened to that bike?

Will,
thanks for the update. I think a rohloff hub would be the cat's meow. imagine an Oz with an spv rear shock, a maverick fork, a rohloff hub (no derailleurs), a sealed bearing pivot, and an anti jack braking system. THAT would be cool. now, if only there was a way to put a Rohloff hub into a Xentis carbon rear wheel and a Maverick hub into a Xentis carbon front wheel, now THAT would REALLY be something!!

shane,

pretty much any cool new, shiny part qualifies, as far as I am concerned. pics are it!!

Everyone have a Happy New Year!!

I know I like my single pivot bikes but I do like this carbon full susser at 22lbs
unfortunatly it doesn't look like its going to be available to those in the states due to a dispute with
Specialized though it is available this side of the pond.Although I believe its an American company its totally designed and built up in Switzerland with a custom designed carbon weave main frame produced in Tiawan (where else)

Expensive though the Genius LTD version.I like the RC10 version.

That's beautiful. If it had more than 90mm of rear suspension, it might even be near perfect.

I'm just having a really hard time picturing how that shock would compress. Seems to me that upward travel at the rear axle would actually EXTEND the shock. Usually, I'm pretty good at visualizing things like that (my IQ test said I was a "visual mathematician"), but this one doesn't quite make sense to me.

what a beautiful bike. i hope it can be sold in the u.s.
my road bike is a '96 scott. i wouldn't mind a carbon scott in my stable.

Matno your spot on [smiley=nod.gif]Its a pullshock system, using Scotts own in house unit.
The MC version with 5" travel  come in at 25lbs,here's some info (certainly worth a read just on the carbon weave process)and a limited test.

Not posted for so long!!!

Happy new year all you Proflexers & K2 worshippers.

Went for an annual ride day after Boxing Day - The Gap in the Brecons, snow, ice, freezing mist and very rocky descent.  Got toasted by my younger mates on the downhills (three of whom had Whyte 46's).

So I've decided to have my Fox Vanilla RC 8½" i2i & 2½" stroke (Matno, gives 6½" travel) serviced and 'PUSH'ed, and swap out my USE Sub for a Maverick.  Then I'll have 6" of travel both ends of my Oz-M.

Anyone had experience of the mavericks on a 4500 / 5500 / or Oz-M?

Hey Oz,

I am looking to put a Maverick on my OzM. In fact I almost had one posted on ebay just now but somehow I get outbid at the very last second every time. The thing went for $580 US with hub included.

Anyway from what I know is that the Maverick has the same ride hieght as a Psylo SL which is what I have. And the hieght can be shifted down 2 inches via a damper lockout. I have read MBR reviews that posted an occurance of fluid leaking through the lockout and fully extending again until compressed. Was serviced through warranty.

The only issue I have at this point is if the fork compesses too much during descents with brakes engaged. With same ride height as my Psylo and one more inch of travel things may get very exciting.

Thnaks for that.

The only issue's I see is Price here in the UK £485!!, and some concern over torsional strength in the 'Headstock' area of some frames.  One mag feature says that bike manufacturers are having to design frames to suit the Maverick.

Is a 4500 / 5500 / or Oz-M suitable therefore?  Any comments welcome.

I am building up a small 856 for my gf.  The goal is a light bike at the lowest possible cost.  I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Just picked up a set of Hugi 28h hubs for $56    ;D

Cheers,
Trevor

Oz -SUB I dont know if this is any help but when I first had my 4500 I speced it  with a Pace RC37 twin crown 100-120mm forks, they where only 4lbs forks but having twin crowns they should of put more stress on the headstock, but I never experianced any problems,in general its an extremly strong frame, I'd say go for the mavericks.

Simon,

I would agree with you on the Pace fork. If it delivered 120 mm of travel as a dual crown fork, then the Maverick fork at 150mm would be very close. One feature that the Maverick fork is known for is a conservative ride hieght. The extra 25mm will be delivered at the bottom of the stroke.

I have never heard of a head tube failure on a carbon frame(knock-knock), I think the Maverick will be OK.

Oz-Sub, hurry up and get that fork.

ok guys, REAL bike porn is a-comin'.

I just picked up my new/old Trek 930 tourer from my friendly LBS who built it up for me. I had it repainted and added fenders and custom painted Aerospoke wheels. It looks really amazing ( I think) and I will post pics as soon as I am able to take a couple. I hope the color comes through on your monitor, it's a beautiful official Ferrari silver blue.

Last year, a mother pulled up in front of the school where I teach in a 550 Maranello that was this color, and I instantly fell in love. with the car and esp. the color, the woman was a HUGE disappointment, fake blond and not good looking at all, wonder how she landed such a rich husband.

anyway, I knew I had to have something that color, so being on a teacher's salary, I decided to turn my old Trek into a cool sorta retro tourer. anyway, I will post pics soon, I promise.

ok, I finally took a couple pics of my new/old Trek 930 touring project bike. It started out as a stock old Trek 930 that I rode for many years off road before retiring it.

I decided to revive it last year as a loaded touring bike. It has been custom painted by Dave Sem in Austin, Texas. He also painted the logo on my Calfee bike and painted my Giant carbon HT for me. His work is really amazing.

There are currently three new pics of Valkyrie in my gallery. Here is a tease:

More pics will follow.

Please don't drool too much, although I suspect there are those who won't like it. Oh well. I LOVE it!!
The color is Ferrari silver blue, and yes, its a real Ferrari color, as used on the 550 Maranello. It is a beautiful color which can only be truly appreciated in person.

Let me know what you think (only if you like it, I appreciate honesty, but I don't take criticism well). :D
