First big swell of the season hit yesterday. Check out the pictures.
Oh yeah this is cycling related because the huge crowd that went to see the surf tied up traffic for hours. The only way to get from Haleiwa town to Waimea was to walk or ride your bike. If you braved driving your car, you was rewarded with no parking. Tow companies had a field day yesterday.

Hi Jimbo,
That looks awesome.
I sailed in the British team in the Kenwood Cup (Waikiki Yacht Club in Honuloulu) in 1988.
Went swimming of the beach at Waimea but it didn't look that that! (It was July).
At least the surf didn't - the two dudes on the boards are no where near as cool as me! [smiley=laughing.gif]

I have seen these (Half Moon Bay, CA) and they are humongous!
Would rather be on Maui, Oahu is great,of course, too.

FYI "Step Into Liquid" a great graphic surfer documentary that look's a little into the minds of the surfers and surfing life. Could see some parallels to bike riding.

I did a couple Mountain Bike Triathlons where the swim portion was in Waimea Bay. It was in July also and very flat. Waimea Park was donated to the Autobon (sp) Society so no more Mountainman Tri's there. [smiley=coolfrown.gif] Waimea Park also use to hold some Downhill races there. :'(
