I finally got around to fabricating a shock adaptor from 1' aluminum bar stock. With the help of a band saw and drill press I mounted a 5.25" cane creek AD-5 onto my wife's 857. The good news is that the air shock assembly saves 6 oz off of the ODS/spring shock. The bad news is the travel has been reduced from 3.6" to 2.3". The only shock that would fit on this 14" frame is a 5.25", 1.25" stroke shock. This is beacuse of the pivot on the 14" frame is recessed into the frame. On a larger frame, I could use a 6.5" 2" stroke shock and maintain the 3.6" of travel. Hope to try it this weekend and see what my wife thinks of it. The travel may be sufficient for her level of riding, but I will have to swap the ODS/spring back when she attempts more technical stuff.
