Title: Vanilla RC owners... question...
Post by: slowride on March 25, 2003, 12:59:58 am
Can one of you provide the dimensions of this thing? I'm mainly interested in the outer diameter of the spring and how much the remote reservoir sticks up over the spring. I'm mulling over getting one for the rear of my Monkey...

I've just ordered one from Supergo.  Should be here the end of the week, so I'll let you have the measurement then if no one else has posted them.

what ! you're not getting a stratos for the rear?

what size is your monkey, if it is large you're ok . When I was looking to put one on my med evo I was informed that it won't fit unless I use a 24" rear wheel.

Actually, I already have a stratos for the rear. I'm so pissed at that company right now that I don't want it anymore (see my posts under "Powerful forces are aligning against me...)

My Monkey is a small. I'm fairly sure that it won't work, but I want to test it out anyway. It seems to me that the mount area on the newest Monkeys is slightly different than the previous Evos. For example, I was told that my startos would only fit one way, but it seems to fit both ways.

Anyway, I'd like to try to mock something up. If it doesn't work out I'll probably just get a Vanilla R or something.

Maybe someone here can help.  I've got a medium K2/Proflex 4000 (unknown year) and the Noleen rear shock is pretty much dead.  Will the Vanilla RC fit and work?

Thanks in advance.  [smiley=beer.gif]

Just checked mine out...
The OD of the spring is 2".  The distance from the center line of the shock (from eye to eye) to the edge of the reservoir is approximately 2 1/4".  The compression knob fully turned out is approximately 2 5/8" from the centerline.  Hope that was what you wanted...if not I'll measure again.

Yep, that's what I needed. Thanks!

What specifically is the fit problem with a 8.5" Vanilla RC on a medium frame? Does the reservoir contact the tire? Other than fitting a 24" wheel, is there any other way to make it fit?

Kindof.  It will work great if you switch to a 24" rear wheel.

Don't forget the rear disc brake you would need too. Assuming your 4000 has a carbon swingarm, that means a special adaptor, like the HammerHead.

(BTW, I'm happy with my Stratos. Their service isn't the best, but if you're patient, it's bearable. Their rear shocks are amazing).

A 24" rear wheel will create the same problem as running a 7.875" shock, a slack steering angle. Does the 8.5" shock hit the rear tire?

If your looking for a fox Vanilla RC check out this ad

http://cambriabike.com/SALE/frame/fox_racing_shox_vanilla_rc_frame_shock_'01.htm

It's the 8.5 inch shock and it's only $199.00
I just order one for my 2000 K2 EVO 3.0 frame.
With the extra travel from the shock I figure the total rear wheel travel will increase to 6.71 inchs.
Just thought I let fellow K2 owners know about the killer deal.

What size frame do you have? If you have a medium, let me know how it fits.

Yes, any of the RC shocks with a remote resevoir will hit the rear tire on small or medium frames.
