I see the disc brake holes, but I could not see if they had post mounts for V Brakes.
MADE IN MEXICO????? A little picante please.
So have you or anyone heard of the early swingarms breaking.
I remember some Titanium frame builder using these swingarms for a short run. I think it was Merlin.
Colin, you got me thinking again. Don't make me hurt you!
Good find.

Colin is right if someone in the USA buys these before they are lost forever we can all share the prize. Of course the forum member that buys them has the right to sell them for a profit. I certainly would be interested in one.
I considered buying them but changed my mind after calculating the cost of shipping and duties. I just don't know if the demand is here to make that money back.
24.99$ for the hole lot seems cheep since I would pay that much for one.
-
I'll give it a try, I live just south of them :). We'll see what happens.

Thanks Chad.
Please do not bid against Wankel.

You just remember why you have that SmartShock.
Okay, wait!!!! Just remember WHO you got it from, NOT why! :-[ :-[
;)
Shoot me a P.M. or e-mail of what you max bid is PLEASE! I ask with good intentions.
-
Good Show Wankel, however hold back and lurk till the last few minutes if you are able.
The other bidder may have just been testing the waters so to speak.
However your strategy may be in good order, springing early. But now hold back and lurk. At the last 2 minutes place a higher bid, and then at the last 30 seconds throw in one last bid even if you don't see a change. Sometimes several bids are coming in at the same time. The secondary bid is to overtake the last flurry.
I really am no expert on bidding but this technique seems to be working for me.
Good luck, Terry
P.S. I would also be interested in one if you get them.
-

Hey, if you won't be around for the end of the auction, I have the ability to bid from my cell phone and it will alert me 5 minutes before the end of any auction I am watching. I would be willing to "stock" them.
-
Thanks for all your input guys :). I don't mind doing it at all. As for the sniping at the last moment, I think I got it covered ;). I'm not new to this .....hehe :). I just wanted to throw my bid up there to see were the gent was. Hopefully (god willing), we may be able to get these for a good price. but, how much do we want to pay for'em? There's 10, how many of you would need one. I can ship in pretty small packs for my fellows across the sea - and these shouldn't weigh too much. I don't want to make anything on these, I just want to save them from some joker that has no idea as to what he was bidding on - and gets them, just for them to get stuck in an attic - when some of us on here could use them. I'm close to them, so shipping isn't a problem getting them. I have 3 sets of sniper-ware (if you want to call it that) at the ready - I just hope that some morrron doesn't jack the price up too high for us :). I just want to help out. Wish us luck.
-Chad
-
Well done Guys!
Terry (Shovelon) you mentioned disc brake holes, I don't think these are........they're the rear strut mounting points on an x57 frame aren't they? (and the rear derailleur hanger holes)
I can see the V-brake mounts so that's fine......
Chad (Wankel) what sniperware are you using currenly? I want to try some out because I can't stand the stress of last minute real-time bidding!
Good luck with this auction, hope no-one else bids against you! $2.60 per swing arm!!

It looks like six of us are interested. Chad I think you should sell them for whatever yo want. It is only fair.
Far be it for me to tell yo how to distribute them.
If all five of us not bidding get one I think you will be easily capable to show a profit.
Lets not count our eggs yet though.
-
Colin, you got mail ;),... On the bit about the arms having disk amounts - I 100% agree w/ Colin. They have V-brake mounts, no disk brake mounts.
Ionit, I gotcha. But, If I get them cheap - we all get them cheap :). That's just how I feel it should be. Hope it all works out for us!
-Chad

Very interesting. If you get a good deal, Chad, count me in, too. I'd have to modify the s/a to handle my disc, but I think that's not too hard.
Did anyone notice that they look like they are missing the shock mount brackets? The one in front, on the top of the pile has one, but not the others. Can you buy a new bracket and is it hard to mount?
-
Mechanic395, what type of frame do you have?. These are made to fit like this: http://idriders.com/cgi-bin/album_k2.pl?photo=frankd3000/IMG_1094.JPG
. The mounts in the back are where you would go to.

Wankel,
I can definately see the 2 mounting holes on the left side of the swingarm on one of the pictures. It is to mate a disk brake plate on it. That is what I don't have on my swingarm. This was K2 attempt that failled I believe.
I think I see the strut mounts on them. My work PC is really old so I can't make out so well.
Yep, I thought you were testing this initial bidder. Give some thought to the double snipe.
Good Luck, Terry
-
Shovelon, is this the pic you're looking at? http://images.andale.com/f2/110/111/18889333/1130455718670_1130037894401_PICT6030_01.jpg
if so, this is a pic of the S-Arm upside down, and is showing the D-Rail hanger point.

Yes. This was the same two holes that we had a thread a couple months ago about. Then these 10 swingarms dissapeared.
Maybe these are the same ones.
terry
-
I think they are. They sure look like them.
-Chad
-
OK Chad. Got it now. Won't fit on a 5000! That explains why it looked funny.
Andrew sure has a nice looking ride, eh?
-
Hehe, you're right. Your 5000 uses the same swingarm as my OZ :).
I'm sure you could MAKE it fit ;). But what would be the point :).
-Chad

if you are serious you can download a little program that will bid automatically up to your predertimed limit within the last few seconds. If someone has this you wont have time to respond unless your bid is over the other guys limit.Seeing as they are x57 swingarms I would say the market is limited....
-
Hey guys, JUST to be sure - these s/arm's will ONLY fit the x57-styled bikes (aka, World Class rear), like mine and Terry's, eh? They WON'T fit the other's. No matter how much you want it to. Again, JUST to be sure.
Chad - you have your "instructions". You're covered either way - we'll all get them cheap. I will make sure of that.
Ionit and Jinder (he'll be by in a bit, i'm sure) - guys, if you're both in with me then Chad can send them to me and I can re-distribute them up here. Ionit, you're close, no problem there. Jinder, well, we'll figure something out easily enough. I will cover the shipping, you guys just pay Chad what you'd owe him directly. Let me know.
-
I want one too.... can I have one?
-
Ok, here's the scoop. As long as no-one out snipes me - we got'em. But, there's always that jerk out there on ebay land that thinks he'll be real smart and bid a bunch to get them. If they do...
1) there going to be paying quite a bit for them ;)....
and (MOST important)....
2) they better own a X57 frame - or know a lot of freinds that have some that's going to want them hehehe !!!! ;) ;D
-Chad
-
If there is availability, I would love to buy one.
-
That is ok with me Frankd3000.
Tell Chad we are marked for three.
-
Man, i'm soooo stoked for these it isn't funny! If we don't win these i'll.... i'll... i'll ..... do something stupid.
(sorry, I couldn't say it - or even type it)
Maybe we better start a list of who's getting one, eh, guys?
Jinder (1)
Ionit (1)
me (1, or 2 IF there's enough)
shovelon (1)
Fio (1)
Speak up guys! There's already 5-6 spoken for. (apologies if I missed anyone).
-
anyone know if they fit an xpx? the strut mounts look to be in the wrong place but if they fit ill have one
-

Sorry NO.
strut mounts are correct its the pivot point that different (forward of the b/b).
Simon.

Good going Guys!
Keep everything crossed!
It's already been said, but.....
THESE ARE SWINGARMS FOR an 857 or 957 type FRAME !
DEFINITELY WILL NOT FIT A 4000, 5000, 4500 or 5500, 856, 956, XP-X !
If these were x000/x500 swingarms I'd definately have booked early for a couple of spares.
My one fear on my 4000se and 5500c is breaking the rear swingarm.........
I've already got an 857 frame that I've never made up, but buying a spare swing arm for that is just too much of an extravagance!
Incidentally, my 857 swing arm has got two threaded holes in the Left Hand dropout, just like these ones..........
http://images.andale.com/f2/110/111/18889333/1133706274278_1133395719343_PICT6031_01.jpg
I always assumed that the 857 was never disc enabled, but now I'm beginning to wonder!
The x56 type frame (as per my XP-X) has a different pivot point entirely and even the the struts meet the swingarm further away from the axle.
Oh what the hell, at that price I think I'll just put one on my XP-X (856) and lengthen the struts and thus the wheel base and see what happens...........(Maniacal laughter........)
<GRIN>

:o :o :o :o
Noooooooo, you wouldn't. Hmmm, or would you?
You gotta snoop through the galleries more often, bud. If you have those two little holes you're ready to make an adaptor and put on a disc if you want.
And Colin - THANKS for the find, eh?!
-
Ok ,...... I won them !!!! Not for $26 - but what the heck :). At least we got'em guys!!!!
-Chad

Chad-
Great work. I was watching it down the line.
Still got them at a great price.
Fio

Holy Schnizle Wankel!
Good job, I will get in touch.
Terry
-
Can I have one too?! I'm all caught up in the excitement of carbon on the cheap... (And I'm just kidding. I only have 5000 frames, no need for one of these).
Talk about expensive though. With shipping, those babies cost over TEN dollars EACH! Dang. I'd have drawn the line at $5...
;)
Wish I could get a spare pivot bushing kit for my 5000's for that cheap! 8)

Nice work Wankel. [smiley=nod.gif]

[smiley=laughing.gif] [smiley=laughing.gif] Hey, I didn't know he was German. ;D
Excellent job, Chad! Looks like you got us all a great deal. Better than anyone know's yet. ;)
Chad is going to put up the list of who's getting what and how many. It looks like everyone in the thread that has spoken up so far get's their wish. If there's any last minute changes to be made we can figure it out, but we think everyone's covered already.
Again, Colin - THANKS for the find. Chad - GREAT bidding. THANKS!
-
Ok guys. Here's my semi final - final list of who I'm going to get my swing arms to:
Jinder
Ionit
Andrew
shovelon
Fio
Collin
Carbon Angus
Wankel (me)
I think we got it! I'll make one more post tomorrow about these, and we can go from there ;) :) !! If you would like, guys in the list are welcome to start PM'ing me your shipping addy's (except for the few that I'm sending all at once to Andrew for him to distribute between those fellows) and I can start tallying up the shipping cost's.
Thanks guys, Take care.
-Chad
-
very shrewd colin..if it doesnt work on the xpx you still have a swingarm for the 857...
or 98 1000,2000,or 3000
-
All,
Well done Chad!
I contacted one bidder who was bidding against us to offer him one as a deal.
===================================
Hi,
If you only want one of these then please contact me. I'm not the person you're bidding against, but I know him. If you want one we can sort you out with one. no sense beating up the price if you just want one?
No offence, your choice.......Good Luck

U bet!! One or perhaps two is all i'm really looking for. I'm looking at replacing the Aluminum swing arm in a Proflex 856. Would u know if this composite swing arm is a direct replacement? Otherwise i have a K-2 Proflex 4000 which this composite will be direct swap.
======================================
But it wouldn't be any good for him anyway!
I assume it wasn't any of us bidding?
I've contacted him and recommended our Group and Forum to him.
What'll be the cheapest Shipping to the UK?
This is an extremely extravagant "spare" for me as I've only got an 857 frame not a complete bike, but at that price each, it's not a fortune is it?
Any other takers in the UK to share shipping costs?
It'll be important to declare the value as below £18 i.e. about $34 to avoid Customs Duty which would then also be applied to the shipping cost as well if the value is declared as too high!
Regards
Colin S.
-
Hi Wankel. I gave you a PM about the shipment to Canada.
see-ya.
-
Ok, I think that does it guys. We've got them all spoken for. Like I said in the PM's " Merry X-mas!! " Hope all of you are ok with this.
-Chad
-
Okay Chad, we're set.
Shoot me an e-mail again (still have it? if not it's under my username) to refresh my memory as to your PayPal account address. I have all the money sitting and waiting in my PayPal balance. We'll get into details on the e-mail.
Ionit, Jinder - i'll e-mail you guys about the payment details. Fair enough as "our" shipping cost will differ from everyone else's, yes?
Merry Christmas everyone!
-
Oh, Chad, maybe it's a better idea to not jump the gun with figuring out shipping costs JUST yet? Remember, these still need to wind up in your posession.
With all of these coming to you you're going to have a big job - you'll have to re-package them all. Maybe better to wait and see how big a box you'll be using to ship to whom and such?
Unless you've done this a million times and you've got it under control. Just a thought.
Colin - that was very kind of you! I was going to suggest it, but thought it might look like I was trying to pull a profit. Hilarious how that turned out!!!! [smiley=laughing.gif] [smiley=laughing.gif] [smiley=laughing.gif]

Hey, Jinder, relax. I'm working out the details with Chad about you and Ionit. It'll probably be a case where the two of you will pay me, seeing as how they're coming up to me first. It'll save you two a few bucks with shipping. I'd then send them to you two directly.
If your PayPal isn't working I can always send it COD. ;)
Give us a day or two to work out the fine details, but that's probably what will take place. I'll keep the two of you informed - don't worry! I'm trying to make things as easy for all of us as possible.
-
No worries jinder, we'll get it done.

Thank you again.

Yup, Jinder and Ionit have both received e-mails from me with details. The s/arm's come to me, then i'll re-distribute them up here to them. They'll pay me. I figure it'll be easiest for the three of you.
You and I need to square-up with the payment.
Has the seller sent the arm's yet, Chad?

Oh my god, would you look at this guy?! :o
He's worse than a kid in the candy store. [smiley=disbelief.gif]
I bet you ANY money (like the money I just payed for all the s/arm's) he's sitting in his chair, typing away madly with his little butt bouncing right off the chair! [smiley=blankstare.gif]
[smiley=laughing.gif]Me too!!!! It's great! I love it!

hehe..
Just as long as he isn't jumping up and down on his S2000. Naw, I think he has more self control than that ;) .

Hi!!
Any swingarm left or are they all taken?!?!
Cheers, Ricardo.
-
Total self control.
I guess I am excitied about the spare arm - you see I love my 957 and this spare arm would greatly comfort me incase if mine breaks.
Thanks guys!
-
I personally find the whole situation quite humorous. If the swingarms fit MY frame, I'd be first in line for a spare too. However, I have ZERO worries that my swingarm will die before my aluminum frame. No way, no how. Far too strong. I've even chipped the carbon significantly with no problems.
But hey, if anyone ever finds a deal on 4000/5000 swingarms... DIBS!
-
Well my spare could'nt be coming at a more perfect time. I am sending my current swingarm to Simon for the cartridge bearing upgrade via Will. I can then fit the spare on my 957 and keep riding while Simon does his trick. [smiley=nod.gif] [smiley=nod.gif] [smiley=nod.gif]
I am still on the fence with the disk brake, but having the spare to work on is cool.

Please please!! tell me if there is anyone left for my old '97 Animal frame...

Hi carbon. Yes, they sent me an automated style of email, but reading the fine pint - it says give them at least 5-7 working days for them to ship out!! I should have them by Monday-Tuesday, I hope. Then I'll get them heading out to you guys. -Chad

Me too, Jinder. Me too. I'm already looking for boxes for your's and Ionit's so when I get them I should be able to forward them to yourselves the same evening.
What?! I'm not a patient person and don't expect other's to be either. :-[ ;)
-
Thanks Andrew
-
Looks like perfect timing on these swingarms.
Had to order derailler hangers from K2 today(totaled one last weekend [smiley=bomb.gif]). Figured I better start carrying a spare while riding ::).
While ordering I asked if any replacement swingarms were available for 957 and Oz bikes. The guy said that only ones left were for Oz/Evo bikes and can be had for $75 US. [smiley=nod.gif]
So basicaly all Proflex (world cup and 9 series) frame segments have be discontiued. [smiley=diaper.gif]
Terry
-
even $75 isn't bad for a spare swing-arm!
Col.

I forgot to mention that they were alum only, no carbon.
Terry
-
Well, from everything I've heard, that's even better, although that means they're not the bushing type, but rather the sealed bearing version for '99 and later models. Not for 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500s. Only for Evo, Oz, etc... Of course, Simon could do it, but it's pretty intense!
-
If the swingarms come with bearings, then the intall is pretty straight forward. It is modifying the clamp diameters that is the problem. That's where Simon comes in.
The hardware after that should be easy.
Terry
-
I don't think that's the part of the modification that Simon was offering to do though! If I recall (Simon, correct me if I'm wrong) he actually cut the aluminum arm to widen it, then welded the plates back together in the new shape (this was on his aluminum swingarm to carbon triangle conversion). Not quite the same as a "simple" bushing to bearing conversion of the same swingarm...
-
Haven't really been following this thread :-[
But Matno is correct the aluminium s/arm will not fit
the carbon frame without widening the front pivot area, all contact points are the same though,eg pivot
point, shock mounting, length from centre of pivot point to centre of dropout etc.
$75 though does seem very good value though,
also the aluminium s/arm is interchangable between evo bush type and the evo frame mounted needle bearing system, they used the same arm then just adapted the mounting to suit.
Simon.
-
Never mind. Andrew just emailed it to me. - disregard!! :).

Simon,
Inquireing minds want to know. How much wider did you have to open the pivot area ruffly? I am just curios.
That is a lot of work, comming from someone that does this stuff for a living.

Approx 10mm total,
5mm from each side,
yes it was a fair bit of work considering all the cutting
and the plate inlays were just knocked up in my little garage,
but you know me once I start something I just get on with it,
this widening was unexpected until the first fit up
so had no choice but to get on with it,
I also had to file the inner dropout welds flush for clearance, this as it turned out didn't leave adeqate weld, so removed all the weld and made a deeper
section for a new weld that I could then file down flush,
all fine now, still being used/raced by my Son.
Oh just a note I didn't widen the actual pivots just the triangular area above the pivots you see in the pics,

Just a quick note to everyone. The arms have been sent out and you should be getting them soon. My secretary said she had no problems with getting them posted - so, hope everyone enjoys when they get them.
I'm out on a buisness trip for the office - I'll try and keep in touch. Take care.

I'm sure it wouldn't need to be asked, but....
Anyone received their's yet?
I'm sure shipping times will be a little longer, given the holiday's. Just curious.
-
Hey everyone. No not yet. Just kidding Andrew.
I don't know if you caught my post asking if you received the letter I sent or if you missunderstood. I sent en envelope to you with some ProActive logo's and various others. It has been more then a week now so they should be their. If not just tell me and I will inquire about them.
Hoppfully you got them. see ya.

Oh geez, SORRY Alex! Yes, I did receive them. I honestly meant to let you know and THANK YOU for them. Fantastic work on your part! Many apologies for not getting back to you sooner! I've been very busy co-ordinating a frame purchase that's been taking up an enormous amount of time and effort on my end (have no nails on my fingers anymore!!!). THANKS again!
-
I understand. Building a new rig is a deceptivly long process. Good luck on it.
Glad to hear they have arived.

Nice, Terry, tease the poor Igloo-livin' Northerner's. [smiley=laughing.gif]
JINDER & IONIT - you will both be receiving e-mails tonight with TRACKING numbers. The arm's arrived tonight and it was my first priority to re-package them and send them out. Don't get your hopes up for a by-Friday delivery. [smiley=worry.gif]
Only difference I can see between Frank's original s'arm and these is the "Made in Mexico" sticker and that the drop-out's are painted flat black (Frank's are gloss black). Everything else appear's to be spot-on! ;)
-
Hello Guys - Great, I'm glad you like them! I JUST got home from a long A$$ trip, I still have to unload the Sub'. I just was checking to see if all's well.
Take care.

THANK YOU very much for the opportunity! I'm sure I can safely speak on behalf of the Canadian contingent in expressing our appreciation.

Thank you. And Merry Christmas to ALL!

:o HUH? It's Saturday?!?!?!?! Okay, well SOMEONE has been a good boy this year. ;)
Hmmm, Jinder live's closer than you do. I wonder if he was as good as you? [smiley=laughing.gif]

Hi Andrew
Marry Chrismas bro!
I haven't got the arm yet but as soon as I do get it I will let you. I am very thankful to you for doing this...
Cheers mate [smiley=beer.gif]

Ha. suprisingly good boy I've been. I never thought praying would do so much for swingarm delivery just JK.
Thanks Wankel. Better luck next time on the forks.
-
Hope everyone had a great Christmas...
I had been away from home for a few weeks before the holiday and wasn't sure if the swingarm arrived.
Needless to say, Carbon looks great under the tree...what a beautiful site.
The story of the carbon swingarm and how we all got them under our trees became one of my favorite stories to tell over the past week. People were impressed with the coordination, devotion and generosity of our group. I am glad I found you guys...
Thanks Chad for all your hard work.
Happy New Year...Stay Safe

By the way, what is the weight difference between aluminum vs. carbon?
-
By the way, what is the weight difference between aluminum vs. carbon?
Between the AL S/Arm from and Evo and a Carbon S/arm from an Oz then NO difference, well not that you can feel, weighing them on kitchen scales showed no difference, there may be a slight difference either way on some engineers scales.
-
According to Peter (who was a K2 employee who used to post on this forum), the aluminum swingarm was ever so slightly lighter, and much stronger. He actually said, "put it this way: you won't catch me riding a carbon swingarm." I personally think the only advantage of the aluminum is the extra stiffness.
Now, for those of you who missed out on this awesome swingarm deal... Here's another one - I think it's the same. (Only one day left)

Another bargain!
So, looking at the pictures..........this one in particular, are these two small holes disk caliper mount points?
(http://idriders.com/proflex/files/x57 Disk Mount.jpeg)
I never though the x57 was "disk ready"?
Col.
-
Those are 2 holes that hold a mounting plate to bolt a brake to. The 2 holes won't fit any brake directly that I know of.
I did see a x57 bike with disk brake on the back that had this little plate interfaced with it.
Terry

"Ready to be disc ready" would be the appropriate phrase. [smiley=nod.gif]
Yeah, a few of us have made an adaptor plate. If you really want "elite" check out Matno's gallery for a pic of an uber-sexy carbon one. If you wanna see a pic of a plain, boring pos then check out my gallery. ;)
