Title: FREE - OP's Stuff !!!
Post by: Old Proflexer on February 25, 2014, 10:07:42 am
Hey guys, it's been quite a while and I've moved into some different options for mountain bikes.  One of my 4500's is with my stepson in Dallas and the other is permanently loaned out to a friend that needs some exercise.  I bought a Specialized carbon and been riding that.

So, I have all this vintage stuff in my garage that I will give away for FREE - catch is, you or someone you know has to pick it up.
I'm not going to box it and mail/ship it anywhere.  I live in South Orange County, CA, zip code 92692.
Email me at nph@cox.net if you can arrange for a pickup.
If there are no takers, it all will be tossed (shame).

A brief list of things:

1.  My original cross link that is set up with a disc mount - should be my avatar
2.  Several other noleen shocks with a bunch of bushings and a complete bushing and pivot set or two.
3.  A set of Magura hydraulic brakes that were fun but I pulled them off years ago
4.  Several 7/8 speed XTR old style shifters - both sides
5.  A few unmounted front and rear disc brake plates for the Proflex 4500 or such including a still packaged Hammerhead rear adapter that was never mounted.
Oh, I have some mud guards as well for the front and rear - maybe go back on some of my old posts and you can see them.

First one to email me and arrange pick it up - gets it all.

OP you cant just bin this stuff! Its getting harder and harder to find good Proflex spares.
If I lived anywhere near you I would call in and pay you for it but I live in UK. Please reconsider postage as I would dearly love to have your Crosslinks with that disc mount. Ive been in awe of this mod since I first saw it. Ive spent hours over many years looking at your photo and wished I had that set up. I still ride with Crosslinks and would so love to have a disc setup. Please reconsider and I'll pay you for your time, and what they're worth. Pleeeeease!!!!

I will try to work something out with Calif. connections to see if this can be saved.

That's precious stuff, man!
Those Magura brakes and XTR 8 speed shifters would come very handy for my "faux 957" proflex made out of a K2 1000 frame.
I already have the crosslink and want to maintain rim brakes.
Is that a crosslink shock I'm seeing? That would be great...

Are you really not interested on shipping?!?!? I'm on the other side of the Atlantic...

Is someone gets and doesn't want them, please give me a ring about those components, so we can work out the shipping.

Pleeeeaaaaaaase!!!!  ;)

Yes that's good news. Maybe/hopefully we can talk a deal on the Crosslinks if you won't be using them ....

I'll take an inventory when it gets here and then figure out what I can realistically use and then spread the joy.

I may have to pile them in my treasure room with the rest of the hoard.  Gold and jewels, and Packard radiator caps, COPO Camaros, 427 Thunderbolts with racing histories, a Jimi Hendrix guitar collection and other really precious stuff.  Yeah, roll in it for a while and watch out for Bilbo.

My cohort in California notified me that the coast is clear, his helmet is too tight and the halibut is in the freezer.  Shipping to be determined tomorrow.

Woot!

Uh, to all then, since the feeding frenzy appears to be somewhat over - you're welcome - - -

I've still a couple of 4500's out there in perfect shape, somewhere, on loan, that may come back someday.
One has a cross link and 8 speed XTR -
The other a Rock Shox Psylo SL, Progressive 5th Element with xt disc's and Shimano 959 wheel set -

I'll get them out the door as well

Take care guys - as an old-timer from the original, original board (we've been thru a few), glad to be a part of the ProFlex innovation and history

OP, thank you for posting the parts on the site.  Always a shame to hear about the parts/bikes that got away but this keeps us going.  Still waiting on the shipping info from my buddy.

Many thanks and take care OP. Stop in from time to time and give us you words of wisdom. It's always good to hear stories of old.

Cheers

On first read, I thought OP was crazy for giving his stash away.  Well, sure anyone heavily into an old orphan bike brand is at least a little crazy.  On further reflection it makes a lot of sense.  Selling it off piecemeal would be a major pain and would take a lot of time and the recompense wouldn't be that great.  For myself, the "Best By" date is long past and I would not expect any of my children to suddenly develop an interest in bicycling.  My son might want a bike but not all that likely, plus he couldn't maintain it.  My mechanical genes weren't passed on.  I'll leave a directive to my heirs that all my bike stuff can go to members of this forum, whether by best offers or outright gifting.  That way the parts and bikes won't end up trashed and unused and the family can do without a long drawn out disbursement of items they don't know about.

Fortunately I don't have a carbon fiber OZ so there is little danger that one of you will put out a hit on me to get it on the market.

I'm looking to get a rear shock set up. Would the person who ended up with the shocks that Old Proflexer gave away be interested in parting with one? Email me or message me here.
                                                 Thanks Tracy

W2zero got the stash. What shock are you looking for? Is it s replacement you need or do you need parts for your existing shock? I have a few spares.

Chris

I'd like to come on a whole unit mine is pretty hammered. I retro fit the springs for this bike myself 12 years ago and the strut was on the way out then. Anything would be better that  what I have now.

wow...it's been a while, and it is sad to see an ol' timer giving up his proflex gear....  I'm still in the hunt to replace the rear shock or rebuild the one for my 756, and needing another hammerhead adapter for my 5000...sadly, always searching the classies for both projects and it has been daunting to say the least :(

Contact Mike Hammer for a new Hammerhead from him (search on this forum), I've recently got two 97HH2K's from him for my x57's and I'm pretty sure he's still doing the CAHH2K for the K2 Proflex Oz, OzM, 4500c, 5500c Carbon frames.

And I'm sure ODS and indeed cone ended Noleens's come up on eBay USA quite often.

Good Luck
Col.

kewl thx Colin....yea I have k2 proflex girvin noleen and risse saved searches up in ebay and get many hits, but very seldom the rear shock I'm hoping to find for that 756....hopefully one of these days......I also noticed that I'm missing the cable ferrule insert(?) where my rear deraileur cable enters at the curve in the swingarm on my 5000, at least the rear one at the wheel hanger is still there lol.....any suggestions for replacing that?  I only noticed it missing when FINALLY cabling up my Oz (4500) frame and noticed it was there on that swingarm but missing for my other...

hmmm, the cable ferrule is flush on the front end of the swing arm, but if you've got the Oz to compare to then I guess you're sure it's missing, that's not too good because I'm pretty sure that the thro' cable routing is part of that assembly, sorry, never had to overcome this problem!

shaitan, what part of the original rear shock are you missing?
Title: Re: FREE - OP's Stuff !!!
Post by: Shaitaan on May 27, 2014, 03:22:11 pm
for the 756....its actually the rubber bushing inside the original 'elastomer shock' that was part of the rebound... when I took it apart, it disintigrated, and decided just to replace the whole shock with a noleen instead (IF I can find one available, one of these days), which Proflex replaced it with later on that year...

I think I found two rubber balls inside the rear elastomer shock.  Is that what you are looking for?  I think there are two OE squishies in my tool box too.  Got those from a K2 sales rep who was servicing an inline skate rental business down the street.
