Title: Hello - newbie from Spain - Proflex RF-1
Post by: miliu on February 07, 2012, 10:26:24 am
Hi, I'm Emilio from Spain.
First of all I apologize for my poor english.

I own an offroad - proflex RF-1 since 20 years ago.
It is said that was first production dual suspension bike in the world.
I don't think there is another one functioning in the world.

Last summer I started to restore the bike. It had a lot of kms and the original spacers and bushes were lost many moons ago.
So my first intention was to restore that part of the bike and to see if I could start a definitive restoration of the bike.
Well, I did. I put some bits I had in home at that time to ride it.

Now I have a lot of new bits to be mounted on the frame: two black araya RM20 rims, NOS deore DX hubs, MINT Tioga Revolver cranks with Shimano SG chainrings, NOS deore DX thumbies, white selle italia turbo, NOS black Deore XT headset, MINT deore Dx mechs, ritchey cantilevers, almost new rigid alu fork, NOS black girvin flexstem, NOs Tioga flat bars, NOS schwalbe black arrow tyres... well, a lot of bits I've been collecting to mount in the frame

Next month I'll send it to paint the rear arm and the forks in its original fluro orange colour. I am waiting for the exact copy of the original decals. Once that I'll start mounting pieces on it.

You can see some photos of the bike last summer here

Now those tyres and bars are in a cruiser.

(First phase of the restoration on page 2 and 3
Sorry, only in spanish.)

Cheers
Emilio

That is one neat bike. Looks like the orange faded to pink. Who says you have to have a new bike to have fun. 8)

Welcome Emilio.

I have a bike similar to yours made of steel. I love it to death.

What was the first year of the aluminum frames?

Terry

Fabulous Emilio -

Great build and restoration - thank you for keeping it alive.

Where in Spain are you?
My daughter lives in Sitges, just south of Barcelona.

Hi Terry, I think in 1990.

The bike you have is a 550? I'm restoring one too, I like it a lot. It has a Tange infinity steel frame.

Wait two months and you'll see a better restoration.

I live in Valencia, about 350kms to the south of Barcelona.
I know Sitges, a good place to live.

The bike had some new components.
Flexstem XST ti, Tioga Revolver cranks, deore dx and deore xt 735, NOS araya RM20's laced with NOS deore hubs, white turbo seat... (the fork in the pic is a Trek and is not correctly fitted, I was hurried to make the pics)
I don't like very much the narrow handlebar, now the bike will fit a Manitou I with an ATAC stem and a little less narrow handlebar (controtech).
Once I'll fit them I'll post some pics.
