Title: Durometer for replacement elastomers?
Post by: dcarr1971 on September 12, 2008, 10:59:42 am
Hi all!

After years of searching, I think I've finally given up on finding replacement shocks for 754 or my Attack (1996).  Risse told me they couldn't help with a 754 or an Attack and Callum (RDS) told me a while back that he didn't think the elastomer's he had would work either, so I'm looking into ordering a tube/rod of urethane to make my own replacements.

I've found a company that appears to be willing to supply the stock http://www.psiurethanes.com/polyurethane_products/polyurethane_rods_tubes.html (http://www.psiurethanes.com/polyurethane_products/polyurethane_rods_tubes.html).  Of course, this all depends upon how much $$$ they quote me for the rod, but I need to understand what hardness to order.  Does anyone know what durometer (hardness?) Proflex used for the originals?

Now that I have a 3000, I may never ride these bikes again, but if I ever sell them I'd like them to be working rather than as parts.

McmasterCarr has urethane tube in small lengths. I bought some 1" 40durometer to use in flexstems, and they worked great.

1.25" diameter x .5" ID, 60 durometer may work well for the rear. It is part #87235K12. Price is listed at $14.26 for 6 inches. 40 durometer might work good for front.

Go to www.Mcmaster.com and type part # in search box for description.

we've just sold elastomers to some attack owners who got together and tested them on my forums!    It all really depends which Attack you have, the 62, 72 or 90mm shock.

That's good news, but I'm not sure which one I've got.  I'll take a look at it and will try measuring the shock. BTW, the frame size is Way Big.  Here are a couple old pictures, but I assume there isn't any quick way to confirm the size from just looking at it.
