Can anyone help with the above problem, I know 12grams arent going to be as consistent as regulated HPA, but at the moment the guns practically unused because its running 220 and under just to avoid such crazy spiking. Help needed asap!

cheers

Tell us a bit more on how your testing.  Whats the temp when your shoot'n over the chrono?  How old is the phantom?
It could be it just needs broke in a bit.  I'd also do the std. Phantom disassemble and reassemble.  Just to make sure all the springs are seated right.

Check your paint for fit in your barrel.  Is the size pretty consistent?  Does some roll through your barrel, and some very tight?  This is your most likely problem.  If not...

Then, as Zero said, disassemble, lightly oil the hammer, and reassemble.

New Phantoms will have a break-in period, but the numbers you post are quite extreme.  Still, if it's new, shoot it a bit in the back yard, or dry fire it a couple hundred times.

If it's not new, next step is to replace the cup seal.  Don't use oil in the valve.  You want the cupseal to stay pretty firm.  Oil softens it and can lead to inconsistent performance.

It would be interesting to see what the numbers were after the 416, IIRC there were two incidences of such problem, one was the a loose TPC jamming the power tube and the other one was a piece of debris left over from machining some how got into the valve body causing the valve to stick, as you reassemble the parts go over them closely, make sure there are no burs leftover from manufacturing and check the nylon screw is providing enough drag on the TPC.

Make sure you don't screw your TPC (velocity adjuster) more than 5 turns.  If you unscrew it too far, it will unscrew completely, you'll get erratic velocity, and damage your bolt/tpc combo.

If you need more velocity than what you can reach before 5 turns on the adjuster, buy a spring kit Smiley

Just to clarify, though I said unscrew, it is clockwise turning I was referring to.  Because too much clockwise ends up with the TPC removed, so it's kinda unscrewing.

Good luck!

this happens to me periodically the two things that almost always resolve it are #1 bad paint, #2 the brass cup seal has worked itself loose and needs to be tightened, remove the power tube tighten the cup seal, and I bet the bad man goes away.
