Accuracy Tips...

Like most Phantom owners i've shot my phantom in hundreds of setups and configurations, i have found that obviously some are more accurate and consistent then others..... that being said, recently i have been messing around with a brand new stock class phantom and about a day after i got it (after taking it apart, inspecting the o-rings, lubing, putting in the RIGHT detents etc etc etc.) I decided that for its first game i should go ahead and use some 12ies... I was pretty un-impressed, the paint was hooking after about 20-30 ft, and after switching about 3 kinds of brand new paint I was still getting the same results. so, I borrowed a 12oz co2 and my gun was driving tacks, same results with 3 of my hpa tanks. This is actually the first time i've ever had this experience with a sc phantom... wondering if someone could share some reasons for this aswell as some accuracy increasing tips/ accesorys such as barrels, custom doohickeys, ghetto rigs etc
.... lets see those B.A. Phantoms!!!

p.s. in case you want to know, for my personal setup i use a gourilla 13ci tank and a 14 inch deadlywind and a few accesorys

i recently started using SC 8" barrel setup without any stock.
my other setup is OSC with 13ci tank.
I must say that short version is just as accurate as the long one but it required some getting used to.

I've found that when I go from a tank of any size to a 12ie the 12ie always shoots hotter. I suspect that it could have an impact on the ball exiting the barrel. It may take a bit of work but changing the spring so the valve is open for either a shorter or longer period of time would be your best bet. With you getting that kind of hook 20 to 30 feet away the ball is coming out with some kind of spin. It's taking that distance for the spin of the ball to take over what is otherwise a smooth trajectory. Make sense?

Is the hook consistent? Always to the same place? I had that problem shooting the Deadlywind at longer ranges. I got a small right hook every shot. Even with the FREAK inserts! Check your barrel for any kinds of residue, scratches etc that could be doing this. Also are you wiping your paint before you load it into tubes? I found that it tightens my shot spread a lot.

My self i prefer a stock for stability and ive also found that with the 12in phantom barrel i can shoot consistent enough to use a cheep Walmart 10 dollar red dot use for BB guns (if it brakes o well it was 10 bux get another). I go back and forth between my 3.5 tanks and 12 grams (since some of my local fields have no idea how to fill a 3.5) quite a bit and find the the earlier post about 12es shooting hotter then any air tank to be true. i also find that if i try to swap in the field (from tank to 12e) on long games my groping goes to hell im guessing is has to do with the ball traveling at a faster rate but im not 100%. I also tryed using an apex tip to get some extra range out of the gun to put some back spin it on the balls but that made the groping go from a paper plate at 40 -50 feet to a kiddy pool.
her is a photo of my set up sorry for the photo quality

Nitro is that the Daisy Red dot? Yeah one direct hit to that and its back to Walmart. I also am an advocate of sights. I use Armson Red dots exclusively. No batteries and no worries about impacts. They last a lifetime! But if the barrel is shooting hooks they aren't worth the box they come in. Gotta get that problem worked out first.

yep ive bin pretty lucky with this last one it has survived 3 shots 1 direct and to glancing and has still stayed true ive also found that if i pull the battery before i put the gun away it last for years. ide love an Armson but they don't do squat during night games and thare WAY more money then i want to spend on a sight when this last Daisy has lasted 5ish years with semi regular play

Interesting. I shoot mine with an 8 inch and a ghost ring on 12ies and its pretty dead on. Could it just be break in time for the thing maybe? You could always try locking it down to a bench or something that would eliminate the human factor or rest it on a bag see if its the paint or the gun. Sounds to be the paint though.

add weight that is the best thing you can do to improve accuracy ones you your self are a consistent shot there is a reason why target guns have a certan geft to them it helps with muscle memory and more stable when on target this translates to paintball in full

u know something that no one has mentioned is PRACTICE find a "build" of a gun u like (short / long barrel, m16 grip / 45 grip. stock / no stock, sighting system / looking down the barrel / ghost ring, ECT...) and just shoot it find a back yard or some place that has a good long stretch and go shooting
i have an old mask that i will lay on a bench or a tree stump in the back yard and practice snap shooting at. i also have a ball that i will rool across the yard and shoot at (wich is harder then ude think to hit) a friend of mine has a street sine in his yard he shoots at and uses the diffident letters as diffident targets
no matter how "true" the gun will shoot if you cant put it on target / lead the shot your not going to hit

Nitro is right. Shoot a case out of that thing. Get your shooting reflexes tuned make sure the gun is the same place every time you shoot to get muscle memory.
Good paint selection is also important. I test tons of different paints, different sizes and even colors. As paintballs are manufactured in huge batches, you will get some nice stuff and cruddy stuff even from the same company and same line of paint. Use a ball sizer to check before you buy and wipe your paint before it goes into the tubes. There is often a residue left on paint that can affect accuracy. Check for dimples too.
I use inserts as well but my older phantoms I am just picky about paint size. I also have Armson red dots on all my guns. No batteries and they take hits like hockey players. But before you use a sight, practice shooting with nothing but your eyes. Nothing beats muscle memory. Then add a sight for when you need to shoot toes that stick out, although one of my teammates used to practice shooting partially covered masks behind bunkers with no sight. That dude can shoot!

I used a Frantom barrel, 40ct hopper and a plain 9oz tank on my direct feed and back bottle phantom. also when i have the time, I jokingly make a "V" with my left hand and stabilize my barrel before I shoot. Idk why but everytime i do that i always get my target in one shot no matter what (reasonable) the distance.
