Question about Shim Stack Regulators

How the heck do these things work?  Or more specifically, if the velocity on my marker is set at 290 fps using a LP-regulated air tank, will the velocity jump or stay the same if I switch to a HP tank - i.e. is the regulator output proportional to or independent of the input from the tank?

If I under stand your post at all, you can get 290fps from a tank with an LP reg. The HP reg is then going to DOUBLE the pressure in the gun.

One of two things are going to happen when you switch over to 900 psi from the 400 psi.

1. Your spring set is so non-standard to get decent velocity at that pressure that the hammer won't be able to open the valve at all or very little.
2. Your paintball breaks the sound barrier!

Oops, didn't make myself clear.  I'm not talking about a Phantom - I'm talking about the inline regulators on electros - the G3 in particular.  Basically I want to know if I have to rechrono in between switching from HP to LP output tanks, or if the regulator simply has a fixed output pressure at a certain set screw adjustment no matter what kind of input it gets (kind of like how the regulator on your HPA tank always puts out 800 or 400 PSI, even as you go down from 4500 PSI to 1000 PSI).

Shouldn't make any difference.

The in-line regulator might work better with HP tank. Better refresh rate, and the old rule of thumb on regulators was that there should be at least a 200 psi difference between the regulator on the tank and the second in line regulator for the in-line to "regulate" properly.

Rgr that.  I was thinking of getting a HP tank anyway, just in case I wanted to throw it on the Phantom for fun

I have c.p. shorty reg that I am trying to use on an arrow precision inferno.

Problem is I can't get it shooting above 260 fps no matter the spring combo.

Does anybody know how to increase the maximum psi output? (I have an extra cp with stripped threads for parts)

If anybody knows what the mod is to increase the pressure range that would be very helpful.

You can get different internals for your reg that will deliver up to 800 psi. Call CP.
