Hi all,

I have been playing around with springs lately and it appears that there are various combinations that will all yield good efficiency.

I would be interested in hearing from folks who are getting 40+ shots from a 12ie and how thier Phantoms are set up.  Especially vertical changer setups.  My dream is to need to refill a winchester hopper at the same time I change a 12 gram.

What springs, hammer, powertube, funky mods, snakeoil, etc. are you using to get to 40?  Anyone getting to 50?

Anyone... Bueller...

Stock springs and a drop out will do you fine.

How many shots do you get with that setup?

I would get 50 on a good day with a stock SC setup, with the 12gram on the back, never changed a thing on it, with my velocity set usually around 265-275.

Bingo. I get close to 50 shots with a dropout changer with the stock springs.

We talk a lot about springs, TPC, and gas/volume, paint match, etc., etc., and I think that we forget how important it is to keep the velocity at or near to 275 fps.

We don't talk about this as much as we do about tweaking the internals. It's always just been understood, but I think that it might be a bit of a surprise to some of the new pump players, especially if they have been used to tournament ball where the velocities tend to run higher.

275 has been the velocity that stock class players have used for ever, and is not only probably the most important factor for greater shot count, but is also about the optimal velocity to shoot a paintball straight as well. Faster velocities will start to eat up CO2 quickly as well as give paintballs that "knuckle ball" effect.

The dropout changer is probably the most efficient, but I've also had good luck with the regular backbottle 12 gram changer.

My dropout equipped Duckslide w/ a 6" freak bored barrel gets over 40 good shots all the time, the velocity is around 260-260fps.  Then you will get a few usable shots, but the velocity drops off a bit each time till its empty.  De-volumizing is a better way to get the shot count up rather than nessing with the internals, Mike has it pretty spot on rite out of the box.  Other than the freak bored barrel, my D-Slide is all stock Microphantom setup. m I have a hard mainspring in my other Phantom, but i usualy run a 3.5 oz tank on that so i am unsire on the shot count on a 12g, but it is over 30 i am sure.

like thkyle mentioned... velocity aroun 265-175  i kept mine closer to the 265 mark and 40 useable shots was not a problem at all... I did make it a quick habit to start changing 12ies after the 4th tube though...

A little bit off topic I guess but, I was just curious if anyone here thats running around the 260fps mark notices any decrease in effective range of if it's so minimal that you really don't notice it.

i notice it when playing outdoors and someone is shooting 280ish... yeah... but on a speed ball field doesn't matter everyone can pretty much shoot across the whole field...

So you're not shooting at 300?

300 the maximum limits, but most outdoor field set the limits at 280, so there is a 20 FPS safety margin for the occasional spikes, also Phantom' s shot grouping seems to work best at around 265-275 fps.

Yes, as a limit of course. But with decent paint and minor fluctuations, you can actually go pretty close.

I've heard before, that you get best results at 280 and I was wondering, if it's valid for different barrel lenghts.
