Armson sight

I know that we had a discussion on this in the old forum. But since I cannot go back to review what was said about sights. I need to know the opinions on Armson sights. I have had a chance to see one in my life and was never able to play with it. How does it handle? It seems that the eye looking into the sight loses some visibility with the target. Does it or doesn't take away from the sight picture? Thanks.

IIRC
It's an occluded site. Meaning that you keep both eyes open and when your brain brings the images from both eyes together it projects the red dot seen by one eye onto the surroundings seen by the other eye.

I understand how the sight works having to keep both eyes open. I was wondering if anyone could give me a review of how well it works. I had a red dot sight that did not seem very accurate. I wanted to know how different the Armson sight is from the red dot.

The only difference is no battery. They are going to be about the same as far as accuracy goes.

I've got several and even have one that's been in continuous use since the late 80's.
They are awesome but do take a little bit of learning to use effectively.

I've been kicking around the idea of grabbing one of these as well. Question for you, Chef: When you set it up, do you use some sort of fixed brace to hold the marker in place while dialing it in?

I use my shoulder as a brace.
Realize that it will not give you pinpoint accuracy or anything. I usually set mine for dead on at a medium fixed distance (ie. 40 ft.) Then just adjust for elevation depending on the target's range. You may also have to adjust for windage if there is any crosswind.

If you're first learning the feel of the phantom, I'd suggest NOT using it. I did that and I found the sight was becoming too much of a crutch.
If anything, learn the feel of the marker, and then slap the prodot on later.
I find that I usually do not have enough time to line up the sight, but when I do have time, it's a great help to confirm your aim.

I use a BSA red dot and will often use it much the same way as the Armson or as an occluded sight.
That is because I will pop out and get a view of where I want to shoot, and then with the gun still shouldered sight "through" the bunker or tree or whatever. Your mind can take a pretty accurate snapshot of what you want to hit, and where it is even behind your bunker. So I guess what I'm saying is that when I do this I focus my eyes at a distance on the target and not "through" the scope of the red dot.
Then I just pivot at the waist, pop out snap shoot, making any adjustments after the shot behind the bunker. Works pretty good, and you don't risk getting hit while exposed and trying to sight in on your target.
Then there are other times that you will have plenty of time to aim because they don't know you are there! I'm a woodsball player and fact is, you won't see many speedball player sporting red dots. But then, you won't see many pumps on a speedball field either! Because I play scenarios for the most part is also why I choose the red dot over the Armson. A red dot still can be used at night, the Armson can't. Night play is half the fun at a scenario game.

Armsons, at least for me, are more difficult to snap with because the dot is a bit easier to lose than the dot in a red dot sight. With that said, I prefer armsons for their ruggedness (not to say red dot sights are fragile...but honestly, armsons can be run over and still work as well as when they were first bought), and their non-dependence on batteries (which is only an issue for douchebags like me who forget to change batteries, or to turn the sight off).

I thought I was the only one that was always forgetting to turn it off! I'll bet I've done that a 100 times.
