Hammer Disassembly

Has anyone taken the sear of there hammer before?  I want to replace the stock sear spring with a heavier one.

Put it in a vise with a rag or something to protect it from the vise teeth.

Using the right sized punch and a small hammer drive the pin out, while trying to watch and listen to which direction the sear and spring fly before bouncing on the floor and disappearing under something!

Just need a roll pin punch and a new roll pin.

I didnt have a punch small enough, so ended up "making" a tool for it.

Yeah, a small nail will work. You really don't need to push it all the way through. Just enough to get the sear and spring free.

Replace the spring and push it back. If it seems loose, just use the pointy end of the nail and "gently" tap it inside the hole of the roll pin to spread the roll pin just a little on both ends.

Why do you want a harder sear spring? Did you do some "evil" file work on the back of your bolt to get a hair trigger?

Its for my P/A Phantom, which will occasionally fire it i doublecock it.  I figure that the stronger spring should prevent this.
