Well a teammate and I have been thinking about pickin up a couple grey ghosts. They seem like nice shooters from what i can tell without actually shooting one, just wondering if there is anything that I should look into before ordering? From what I can tell they are a step down from a buzzard, but a step up from a phantom? or so it has been described as. Heard some horror stories about Lapco with the pre ordering of the 06 GG's, but are the new ones the same way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, also on any other SC non-brass guns would be great.

I'd personally consider the Phantom a step up from a Buzzard, but that's just me.

Yup. Performance wise, I agree that the phantom is a better piece of equipment to own. It doesn't help matters that I can't stomach and over-barrel pump handle and the Buzzards have never been modified for a UC pump handle... where as my phantom was easy-peasy to do it to, a buzzard would require risking the value of the gun to any people that would want to buy it later... and I try not to destroy the value of a gun at all.

True, but my Phantom is in my gear bag and my Buzzard is in my closet...

Buzzards are hand crafted works of "art" (I use the term art loosely because there isn't a whole lot you can do to a Buzzard to separate it from every other Buzzard in existence, and they're more of a status symbol than anything else.), while the Phantom is a mass production performer.

Buzzards are nice if you give them love, Phantoms just need a rag, oil, and something to shoot.  Of course I'm biased...  and I have a Phuzzard so I get the best of both I suppose.

Well I suppose it was rather silly of me to come to the phantom owners group and imply that they are a step down from anything Tongue. To be honest im not a HUGE fan of buzzards, mainly because of the trigger frame, so I won't be grabbing one of those anytime soon I dont think. Unless they are compatible with other trigger frames? But back to my main question, is there anything special about the Grey Ghost? I would pick up a phantom in a minute if they weren't so common. It's hard for me to get past that as I like to have unique guns. Out of the 10 or so pump players i know in ontario, probably 9 of them own or have owned phantoms. Dare I say it, it almost reminds me of the ion situation. The ion is a solid performer for the money yadda yadda yadda, but it's so common that i just wouldn't want one. I suppose I am putting too much into this and should just make up my mind, but I don't want to be stuck with something I'm not completely in love with like I am with my other markers (Well, most.)

Considering how many of the parts on the Grey Ghost are made by CCI it's almost like buying a phantom! Cheesy

Really? I read somewhere (LAPCO forums maybe?) that the parts are refurbed and/or used from the old grey ghosts. Or are those by cci aswell? I know the changer is CCI made (or i think so at least) but what else is made by cci?

Of course Lapco made parts and the original story was them having parts in stock and making the ghost with them.  IIRC the bolt and bucket changer are CCI.

I feel this way about motor cycles. When I was young (that's before Luke Skywalker was born!) a Harley was cool...............now the roads a choked with grey haired old farts on Harleys! I refuse to be another one!

Phantoms are solid performers, dependable, Hold up well to hard use and abuse, and........................very customizable. If you want something unique, I think you can get both with a Phantom.

The Ghost is going to be a well crafted gun. It won't shoot any better than the Phantom. It's going to be a little heavier. And you'll remember this post when you're on your hands and knees looking for that brass thumb screw that fell out "somewhere around here" in the woods!

Haha yea harleys suck, so does losing thumb screws. Good point, probably going to go for a phantom and then get some work done to it so that it isint so....stock. But at the same time the ghost just tickles my fancy (maybe some teflon tape on the threads in order to not lose the thumb screw?). Hm, decisions decisions. Any other guns anyone recomends? I checked out the Carter line and the only gun that really interests me is the mini-comp, but im not about to drop that kinda coin on a gun just yet. *sigh* what to do what to do.

I have a bunch of old pumps that I like to play with once in a while. I'll replace the thumb screws with common machine bolts and o-rings before I go out. If one of those gets lost, no big deal. You could do that with the Ghost too.

I know how you feel about wanting to have something that is different than what other people have.  I feel the same way.  I've owned several custom Phantoms.  But you know what?  Most of those others are gone.  My main shooter is still my first black Phantom.  It has custom, one off parts, and many configurations to keep me entertained, but at the end of the day, it is a black Phantom, and it shoots great!  I got props for having cool Phantoms, sure, but they shot just the same, and the newness and coolness wears off on you and others.

That being said, I still want to build a pump mag, because I like the functionality, and I like the uniqueness.  We may search, but the Phantom is still pretty much the best there is.

*sigh* point well taken. After thinking about it last night for a while I'm thinking I have come to a decision, which still leaves me being a marker whore, but i digress. I will hopefully be trading my A5 for a RF phantom with a 3.5 oz, t stock and 11" barrel. That will be my lazy day/woods gun. Because i play front for my team, I will also pick up a micro dropout phantom and use that for airball. HOPEFULLY that will hold me off for as long as i need...to....make my own gun. Yes you read it right, I figure I am always looking for certain things in guns, and the only way i will be able to be rid of this desire for perfection, is to make my perfect gun. It will probably take 2-3 years, but I will do it, and hopefully wont whore too much between now and the time it is complete. That being said, anyone have suggestions for what base marker to use? I.E. Phantom platform, Cocker platform etc. I am starting to do the research for this project now, so any input helps.

oh man, i just bought myself a sheridan p68 that i'm going to mod as a winter project, i already have a cocker single trigger frame lined up, and i plan on picking up a palmer pump handle.
i also just sent payment for a really nice looking vsc phantom, so you should be like me and gun whore different styles of pump guns, that way if you get tired of one gun, you can change it up for the next round, like i was getting tired of my cocker, so i used the sheridan yesterday, it is only shooting at 230 fps, but it was a fun change
